DISAGREEMENT, QUARRELS, STRIFE
Mt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God.
5:23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that
your brother has ought against you;
24 Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be
reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly, whiles you are in the way with him;
lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge
deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
26 Truly I say to you, You shall by no means come out there, till you have
paid the uttermost farthing.
5:39 But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you
on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue you at the law, and take away your coat, let him
have your cloak also.
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send
peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the
daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in
law.
36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
Lu 12:51 Suppose you that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell
you, No; but rather division:
52 For from now on there shall be five in one house divided, three against
two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the
father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother;
the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law
against her mother in law.
12:58 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are in the
way, give diligence that you may be delivered from him; lest he hale you to
the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer cast
you into prison.
59 I tell you, you shall not depart there, till you have paid the very last
mite.
Acts 15:36 And some days after Paul said to Barnabas, Let us go again
and visit our brothers in every city where we have preached the word of the
LORD, and see how they do.
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them
from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder
one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed to Cyprus;
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brothers to
the grace of God.
Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high
things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own
conceits.
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of
all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.
13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness,
not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like minded one
toward another according to Christ Jesus:
6 That you may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 1:10 Now I beseech you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions
among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in
the same judgment.
11 For it has been declared to me of you, my brothers, by them which are of
the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you said, I am of Paul; and I of
Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in
the name of Paul?
3:3 For you are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and
strife, and divisions, are you not carnal, and walk as men?
4 For while one said, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are you
not carnal?
6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the
unjust, and not before the saints?
2 Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world
shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know you not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain
to this life?
4 If then you have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to
judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you?
no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brothers?
6 But brother goes to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because you go to law
one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? why do you not rather
suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8 No, you do wrong, and defraud, and that your brothers.
11:17 Now in this that I declare to you I praise you not, that you come
together not for the better, but for the worse.
18 For first of all, when you come together in the church, I hear that there
be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved
may be made manifest among you.
2 Cor 12:20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such
as I would, and that I shall be found to you such as you would not: lest
there be debates, contentions, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings,
arrogance, tumults:
21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I
shall mourn many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the
uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
13:11 Finally, brothers, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one
mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.
15 But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you be not
consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust
of the flesh.
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, jealousies, wrath, strife,
seditions, heresies,
21 Contentions, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which
I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do
such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you
walk worthy of the vocation with which you are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one
another in love;
3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Php 1:15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some
also of good will:
1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becomes the gospel of Christ: that
whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs,
that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the
faith of the gospel;
2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love,
if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfill you my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being
of one accord, of one mind.
4:2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind
in the Lord.
4:5 Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
1 Th 5:13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s
sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
1 Tim 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife,
vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient,
not a brawler, not covetous;
6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the
words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to
godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of
words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth,
supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.
2 Tim 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them
before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the
subverting of the hearers.
2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do
engender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle to all men,
apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure
will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who
are taken captive by him at his will.
Tit 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers,
to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all
meekness to all men.
3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and
strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no
man shall see the Lord:
Jas 3:14 But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts,
glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,
and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality,
and without hypocrisy.
4:1 From where come wars and fights among you? come they not hence, even of
your lusts that war in your members?
2 You lust, and have not: you kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain:
you fight and war, yet you have not, because you ask not.
1 Pe 3:8 Finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brothers, be pitiful, be courteous:
Gen 13:7 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s
cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite
dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray you, between me and
you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we be brothers.
9 Is not the whole land before you? separate yourself, I pray you, from me:
if you will take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you
depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it
was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah,
even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you come to Zoar.
26:19 And Isaac’s servants dig in the valley, and found there a well of
springing water.
20 And the herdsmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, The
water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove
with him.
21 And they dig another well, and strove for that also: and he called the
name of it Sitnah.
22 And he removed from there, and dig another well; and for that they strove
not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD
has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
Ex 21:18 And if men strive together, and one smite another with a
stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keeps his bed:
19 If he rise again, and walk abroad on his staff, then shall he that smote
him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him
to be thoroughly healed.
Pr 3:30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done you no
harm.
6:12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a fraudulent mouth.
13 He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his
fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows
discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken
without remedy.
6:16 These six things does the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination to
him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running
to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brothers.
10:12 Hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins.
13:10 Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
15:18 A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeases
strife.
16:28 A fraudulent man sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends.
16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules
his spirit than he that takes a city.
17:1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of
sacrifices with strife.
17:9 He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter
separates very friends.
17:14 The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: therefore leave
off contention, before it be meddled with.
17:19 He loves transgression that loves strife: and he that exalts his gate
seeks destruction.
18:1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeks and intermeddles
with all wisdom.
18:6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.
18:17 He that is first in his own cause seems just; but his neighbor comes
and searches him.
18 The lot causes contentions to cease, and parts between the mighty.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their
contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20:3 It is an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be
meddling.
22:10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yes, strife and
reproach shall cease.
23:29 Who has woe? who has sorrow? who has contentions? who has babbling?
who has wounds without cause? who has redness of eyes?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
25:8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end
thereof, when your neighbor has put you to shame.
9 Debate your cause with your neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to
another:
10 Lest he that hears it put you to shame, and your infamy turn not away.
26:17 He that passes by, and meddles with strife belonging not to him, is
like one that takes a dog by the ears.
26:20 Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no
talebearer, the strife ceases.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man
to kindle strife.
27:17 Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his
trust in the LORD shall be made fat.
29:22 An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in
transgression.
30:33 Surely the churning of milk brings forth butter, and the wringing of
the nose brings forth blood: so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.
Isa 58:4 Behold, you fast for strife and debate, and to smite with
the fist of wickedness: you shall not fast as you do this day, to make your
voice to be heard on high.
