LOVE, NEIGHBOUR, CHARITY
Mt 5:38 You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and
a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you
on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue you at the law, and take away your coat, let him
have your cloak also.
41 And whoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him two.
42 Give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not
you away.
5:43 You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and
hate your enemy.
44 But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good
to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and
persecute you;
45 That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he
makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the
just and on the unjust.
46 For if you love them which love you, what reward have you? do not even
the publicans the same?
47 And if you salute your brothers only, what do you more than others? do
not even the publicans so?
48 Be you therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is
perfect.
7:12 Therefore all things whatever you would that men should do to you, do
you even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to
silence, they were gathered together.
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him,
and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
23:23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithe of
mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law,
judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought you to have done, and not to leave
the other undone.
24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Lu 6:27 But I say to you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to
them which hate you,
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which spitefully use you.
9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received
up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a
village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go
to Jerusalem.
54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, will you
that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as
Elias did?
55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, You know not what manner of
spirit you are of.
56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.
And they went to another village.
Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, That you love one another;
as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love
one to another.
15:12 This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you.
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication,
wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate,
deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil
things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection,
implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are
worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do
them.
12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; hold to
that which is good.
12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight
of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath:
for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, said the Lord.
20 Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink:
for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves
another has fulfilled the law.
9 For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not
steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there
be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely,
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
10 Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of
the law.
1 Cor 4:13 Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the
world, and are the offscouring of all things to this day.
6:7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because you go to law
one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? why do you not rather
suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8:1 Now as touching things offered to idols, we know that we all have
knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies.
13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not
charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and
all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my
body to be burned, and have not charity, it profits me nothing.
13:4 Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity braggs
not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked,
thinks no evil;
6 Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all
things.
13:8 Charity never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;
whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it
shall vanish away.
13 And now stays faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of
these is charity.
14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you
may prophesy.
16:14 Let all your things be done with charity.
2 Cor 6:3 Giving no offense in any thing, that the ministry be not
blamed:
4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much
patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in
fastings;
6 By pureness, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the Holy
Ghost, by love unfeigned,
Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision avails any thing,
nor uncircumcision; but faith which works by love.
5:13 For, brothers, you have been called to liberty; only use not liberty
for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.
15 But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you be not
consumed one of another.
5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
6:2 Bear you one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you,
being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length,
and depth, and height;
4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy
of the vocation with which you are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one
another in love;
4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that
which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the
measure of every part, makes increase of the body to the edifying of itself
in love.
5:1 Be you therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given himself for
us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling smell.
Php 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any
comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfill you my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being
of one accord, of one mind.
Col 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in
love, and to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the
acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of
mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a
quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do you.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of
perfection.
1 Th 1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of
you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and
patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our
Father;
4:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because
that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and
testified.
5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of
faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
5:15 See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that
which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
1 Tim 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure
heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
4:12 Let no man despise your youth; but be you an example of the believers,
in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
2 Tim 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith,
charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent,
fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn
away.
Heb 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of
love, which you have showed toward his name, in that you have ministered to
the saints, and do minister.
10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works:
Jas 2:8 If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You
shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well:
9 But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of
the law as transgressors.
1 Pe 2:21 For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also
suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he
threatened not; but committed himself to him that judges righteously:
3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise
blessing; knowing that you are thereunto called, that you should inherit a
blessing.
4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity
shall cover the multitude of sins.
2 Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith
virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall
neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Joh 2:9 He that said he is in the light, and hates his brother, is
in darkness even until now.
10 He that loves his brother stays in the light, and there is none occasion
of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and
knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil:
whoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his
brother.
11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should
love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And why
slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the
brothers. He that loves not his brother stays in death.
15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer
has eternal life abiding in him.
3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his
Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that
loves is born of God, and knows God.
8 He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.
4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in
us, and his love is perfected in us.
4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he
that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has
not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loves God love his
brother also.
2 Joh 1:5 And now I beseech you, lady, not as though I wrote a new
commandment to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love
one another.
Ex 23:4 If you meet your enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, you
shall surely bring it back to him again.
5 If you see the ass of him that hates you lying under his burden, and would
forbear to help him, you shall surely help with him.
9 Also you shall not oppress a stranger: for you know the heart of a
stranger, seeing you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Lev 19:17 You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall in
any wise rebuke your neighbor, and not suffer sin on him.
18 You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your
people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
1933 And if a stranger sojourn with you in your land, you shall not vex him.
34 But the stranger that dwells with you shall be to you as one born among
you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land
of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
De 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a
great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regards not persons, nor takes
reward:
18 He does execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loves the
stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
19 Love you therefore the stranger: for you were strangers in the land of
Egypt.
Ps 109:4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself to
prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
Pr 10:12 Hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins.
15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and
hatred therewith.
17:9 He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter
separates very friends.
20:22 Say not you, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he
shall save you.
24:17 Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when
he stumbles:
24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he has done to me: I will render to
the man according to his work.
25:21 If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty,
give him water to drink:
22 For you shall heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD shall reward
you.
Ec 7:8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and
the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
