TITHE, TENTH AND MONEY
Mt 5:42 Give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of
you turn not you away.
6:1 Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them:
otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory
of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
3 But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand
does:
4 That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret
himself shall reward you openly.
19:20 The young man said to him, All these things have I kept from my youth
up: what lack I yet?
21 Jesus said to him, If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and
give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow
me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he
had great possessions.
23:23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithe of
mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law,
judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought you to have done, and not to leave
the other undone.
24 You blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Mr 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the
people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which
make a farthing.
43 And he called to him his disciples, and said to them, Truly I say to you,
That this poor widow has cast more in, than all they which have cast into
the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast
in all that she had, even all her living.
Lu 6:34 And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what
thank have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
35 But love you your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing
again; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the
Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.
6:38 Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and
shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with
the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again.
7:40 And Jesus answering said to him, Simon, I have somewhat to say to you.
And he said, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five
hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me
therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And
he said to him, You have rightly judged.
8:1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and
village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and
the twelve were with him,
2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others,
which ministered to him of their substance.
12:33 Sell that you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax
not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches,
neither moth corrupts.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
16:1 And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which
had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he had wasted his goods.
2 And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of you?
give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.
3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes
away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they
may receive me into their houses.
5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors to him, and said to the first,
How much owe you to my lord?
6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take your
bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Then said he to another, And how much owe you? And he said, An hundred
measures of wheat. And he said to him, Take your bill, and write fourscore.
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for
the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children
of light.
9 And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of
unrighteousness; that, when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting
habitations.
16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much:
and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who
will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who
shall give you that which is your own?
13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and
love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and mammon.
14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and
they derided him.
15 And he said to them, You are they which justify yourselves before men;
but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is
abomination in the sight of God.
18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
19:7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be
guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said to the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my
goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by
false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
Joh 6:12 When they were filled, he said to his disciples, Gather up
the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
Acts 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things
common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as
every man had need.
4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were
possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the
things that were sold,
35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made to
every man according as he had need.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being
interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’
feet.
6:1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied,
there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their
widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them, and said,
It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Why, brothers, look you out among you seven men of honest report, full of
the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of
the word.
9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by
interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and
giving of alms which she did.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when
they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of
the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much
alms to the people, and prayed to God always.
11:27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem to Antioch.
28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit
that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to
pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.
29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to
send relief to the brothers which dwelled in Judaea:
30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas
and Saul.
20:32 And now, brothers, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace,
which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them
which are sanctified.
33 I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.
34 Yes, you yourselves know, that these hands have ministered to my
necessities, and to them that were with me.
35 I have showed you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support
the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is
more blessed to give than to receive.
Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorts, on exhortation: he that gives, let him
do it with simplicity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy,
with cheerfulness.
13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves
another has fulfilled the law.
15:25 But now I go to Jerusalem to minister to the saints.
26 For it has pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain
contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
27 It has pleased them truly; and their debtors they are. For if the
Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is
also to minister to them in carnal things.
1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profits me
nothing.
16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to
the churches of Galatia, even so do you.
2 On the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as
God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
2 Cor 8:1 Moreover, brothers, we do you to wit of the grace of God
bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and
their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.
3 For to their power, I bear record, yes, and beyond their power they were
willing of themselves;
4 Praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift, and take on
us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the
Lord, and to us by the will of God.
8:7 Therefore, as you abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and
knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that you abound
in this grace also.
8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others,
and to prove the sincerity of your love.
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich,
yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be
rich.
8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to
will, so there may be a performance also out of that which you have.
12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a
man has, and not according to that he has not.
13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and you burdened:
14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply
for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want:
that there may be equality:
15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that
had gathered little had no lack.
9:1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me
to write to you:
2 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them
of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal has provoked
very many.
9:6 But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and
he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always
having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor: his
righteousness remains for ever.
10 Now he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your
food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your
righteousness;)
11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causes through
us thanksgiving to God.
12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the want of the
saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings to God;
Gal 2:10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same
which I also was forward to do.
Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor,
working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to
him that needs.
1 Tim 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not
high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives
us richly all things to enjoy;
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,
willing to communicate;
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to
come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Phm 1:18 If he has wronged you, or owes you ought, put that on my
account;
19 I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not
say to you how you owe to me even your own self besides.
Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the
patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
5 And truly they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the
priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the
law, that is, of their brothers, though they come out of the loins of
Abraham:
6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham,
and blessed him that had the promises.
7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom
it is witnessed that he lives.
9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receives tithes, paid tithes in
Abraham.
10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices
God is well pleased.
Gen 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine:
and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God,
possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which has delivered your enemies into
your hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house:
and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth to you.
Ex 22:25 If you lend money to any of my people that is poor by you,
you shall not be to him as an usurer, neither shall you lay on him usury.
Lev 25:35 And if your brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with
you; then you shall relieve him: yes, though he be a stranger, or a
sojourner; that he may live with you.
36 Take you no usury of him, or increase: but fear your God; that your
brother may live with you.
37 You shall not give him your money on usury, nor lend him your victuals
for increase.
27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of
the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s: it is holy to the LORD.
Num 5:6 Speak to the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall
commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that
person be guilty;
7 Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall
recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add to it the fifth
part thereof, and give it to him against whom he has trespassed.
8 But if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass to, let the
trespass be recompensed to the LORD, even to the priest; beside the ram of
the atonement, whereby an atonement shall be made for him.
18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel
for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of
the tabernacle of the congregation.
22 Neither must the children of Israel from now on come near the tabernacle
of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.
23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the
congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for
ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they
have no inheritance.
24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave
offering to the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I
have said to them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no
inheritance.
25 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
26 Thus speak to the Levites, and say to them, When you take of the children
of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance,
then you shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth
part of the tithe.
De 14:22 You shall truly tithe all the increase of your seed, that
the field brings forth year by year.
15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of your brothers within any of
your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not
harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother:
8 But you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him
sufficient for his need, in that which he wants.
10 You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you
give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you
in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to.
11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command you,
saying, You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to
your needy, in your land.
2 Ch 31:6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that
dwelled in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and
sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated to the LORD their
God, and laid them by heaps.
9 Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the
heaps.
10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said,
Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we
have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD has blessed his
people; and that which is left is this great store.
Neh 10:37 And that we should bring the first fruits of our dough, and
our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, to
the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our
ground to the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all
the cities of our tillage.
38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the
Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes
to the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
Ps 37:21 The wicked borrows, and pays not again: but the righteous
shows mercy, and gives.
37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous
forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends; and his seed is blessed.
112:5 A good man shows favor, and lends: he will guide his affairs with
discretion.
9 He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures for
ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.
Pr 3:9 Honor the LORD with your substance, and with the first fruits
of all your increase:
10 So shall your barns be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst
out with new wine.
11:15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hates
indebtedness is sure.
11:24 There is that scatters, and yet increases; and there is that withholds
more than is meet, but it tends to poverty.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered
also himself.
17:8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that has it: wherever
it turns, it prospers.
23 A wicked man takes a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of
judgment.
17:16 Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he
has no heart to it?
17:18 A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes surety in the
presence of his friend.
19:4 Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.
6 Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to
him that gives gifts.
19:17 He that has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has
given will he pay him again.
20:14 It is naught, it is naught, said the buyer: but when he is gone his
way, then he boasts.
20:16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of
him for a strange woman.
21:26 He covets greedily all the day long: but the righteous gives and
spares not.
22:7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
22:26 Be not you one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties
for debts.
27 If you have nothing to pay, why should he take away your bed from under
you?
27:13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of
him for a strange woman.
28:8 He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall
gather it for him that will pity the poor.
Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say,
Wherein have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.
9 You are cursed with a curse: for you have robbed me, even this whole
nation.
10 Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in
my house, and prove me now herewith, said the LORD of hosts, if I will not
open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there
shall not be room enough to receive it.
11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy
the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the
time in the field, said the LORD of hosts.
