SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING
Mt 7:24 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man, which built his house on a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat
on that house; and it fell not: for it was founded on a rock.
13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that hears the
word, and understands it; which also bears fruit, and brings forth, some an
hundred times, some sixty, some thirty.
13:51 Jesus said to them, Have you understood all these things? They say to
him, Yes, Lord.
52 Then said he to them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed to the
kingdom of heaven is like to a man that is an householder, which brings
forth out of his treasure things new and old.
16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his
disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elias; and
others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He said to them, But whom say you that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for
flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build
my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever
you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall
loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was
Jesus the Christ.
24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler
over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.
25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, which took
their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
Mr 4:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said to them, Take heed what you hear: with what measure you mete,
it shall be measured to you: and to you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that has, to him shall be given: and he that has not, from him
shall be taken even that which he has.
Lu 2:43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child
Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey;
and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking
him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple,
sitting in the middle of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them
questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Son,
why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you
sorrowing.
49 And he said to them, How is it that you sought me? knew you not that I
must be about my Father’s business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spoke to them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them:
but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
24:44 And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I
was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in
the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the
scriptures,
Joh 5:25 Truly, truly, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is,
when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear
shall live.
6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him:
and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every
man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes to me.
10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 But if I do, though you believe not me, believe the works: that you may
know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
14:20 At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and
I in you.
16:13 However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into
all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear,
that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Esaias, and said, Understand you what you read?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired
Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Rom 15:14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brothers, that
you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to
admonish one another.
15:21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see:
and they that have not heard shall understand.
22 For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you.
1 Cor 2:10 But God has revealed them to us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is
in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which
is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches,
but which the Holy Ghost teaches; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
2:14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of
no man.
16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we
have the mind of Christ.
14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding,
that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an
unknown tongue.
20 Brothers, be not children in understanding: however, in malice be you
children, but in understanding be men.
Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brothers, that the gospel which was
preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the
revelation of Jesus Christ.
Eph 1:8 Wherein he has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to
you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what
is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his
inheritance in the saints,
3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given
me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known to me the mystery; (as I wrote before
in few words,
4 Whereby, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it is now
revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and
partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
3:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and
length, and depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be
filled with all the fullness of God.
Php 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more
in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That you may approve things that are excellent; that you may be sincere
and without offense till the day of Christ.
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not
cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the
knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in
every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1:26 Even the mystery which has been hid from ages and from generations, but
now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom;
that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
2:1 For I would that you knew what great conflict I have for you, and for
them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and to
all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of
the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
2 Tim 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give you understanding in
all things.
3:14 But continue you in the things which you have learned and have been
assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them;
15 And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able
to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by
the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which
do appear.
Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to
all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him.
3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out
of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and
lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,
and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality,
and without hypocrisy.
2 Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith
virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall
neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
1 Joh 2:27 But the anointing which you have received of him stays in
you, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing
teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has
taught you, you shall abide in him.
5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an
understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is
true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Gen 41:33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise,
and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take
up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay
up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of
famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not
through the famine.
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his
servants.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a
man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, For as much as God has showed you all this,
there is none so discreet and wise as you are:
40 You shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my
people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than you.
Ex 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son
of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in
understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,
De 34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom;
for Moses had laid his hands on him: and the children of Israel listened to
him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
1 Ki 3:27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child,
and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they
feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do
judgment.
4:29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and
largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
30 And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east
country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and
Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round
about.
32 And he spoke three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and
five.
33 And he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even to the
hyssop that springs out of the wall: he spoke also of beasts, and of fowl,
and of creeping things, and of fishes.
34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all
kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
1 Ch 12:23 And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready
armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul
to him, according to the word of the LORD.
32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of
the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two
hundred; and all their brothers were at their commandment.
Job 11:2 For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild
ass’s colt.
12:12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
13 With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.
17:4 For you have hid their heart from understanding: therefore shall you
not exalt them.
28:12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of
understanding?
13 Man knows not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the
living.
14 The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the
price thereof.
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or
the sapphire.
17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall
not be for jewels of fine gold.
18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom
is above rubies.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with
pure gold.
20 From where then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the
fowls of the air.
22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
23 God understands the way thereof, and he knows the place thereof.
24 For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven;
25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weighs the waters by measure.
26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the
thunder:
27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yes, and searched it
out.
28 And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to
depart from evil is understanding.
32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives
them understanding.
34:1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
2 Hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge.
3 For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes meat.
4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
35:9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to
cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10 But none said, Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night;
11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than
the fowls of heaven?
36:15 He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in
oppression.
Ps 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the
commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the
LORD are true and righteous altogether.
111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding
have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures for ever.
119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep your law; yes, I shall
observe it with my whole heart.
73 Your hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I
may learn your commandments.
98 You through your commandments have made me wiser than my enemies: for
they are ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for your testimonies are
my meditation.
100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep your precepts.
104 Through your precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false
way.
130 The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the
simple.
169 Let my cry come near before you, O LORD: give me understanding according
to your word.
Pr 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and
understanding.
3:13 Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and
the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are
not to be compared to her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and
honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her: and happy is every
one that retains her.
4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the
words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep
you.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your
getting get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honor, when
you do embrace her.
9 She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall
she deliver to you.
8:1 Does not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
2 She stands in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the
paths.
3 She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the
doors.
4 To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5 O you simple, understand wisdom: and, you fools, be you of an
understanding heart.
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice
gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired
are not to be compared to it.
9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just
man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the
holy is understanding.
11 For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall
be increased.
12 If you be wise, you shall be wise for yourself: but if you scorn, you
alone shall bear it.
10:23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding
has wisdom.
11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
13:0 Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
13:15 Good understanding gives favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.
14:6 A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy to him
that understands.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools
is deceit.
15 The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his
going.
16 A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is
confident.
14:33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: but that
which is in the middle of fools is made known.
15:14 The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth
of fools feeds on foolishness.
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of
understanding walks uprightly.
15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is
humility.
16:16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get
understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way
preserves his soul.
16:21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the
lips increases learning.
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that has it: but the
instruction of fools is folly.
23 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.
18:15 The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks
knowledge.
19:8 He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding
shall find good.
11 The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass
over a transgression.
23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and
understanding.
28:26 He that trusts in his own heart is a fool: but whoever walks wisely,
he shall be delivered.
30:2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding
of a man.
3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
Ec 1:12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all
things that are done under heaven: this sore travail has God given to the
sons of man to be exercised therewith.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all
is vanity and vexation of spirit.
15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting
cannot be numbered.
16 I communed with my own heart, saying, See, I am come to great estate, and
have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem:
yes, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I
perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increases knowledge
increases sorrow.
2:26 For God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge,
and joy: but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that
he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation
of spirit.
7:11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them
that see the sun.
12 For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellency of
knowledge is, that wisdom gives life to them that have it.
13 Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he has
made crooked?
20 For there is not a just man on earth, that does good, and sins not.
7:23 All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was
far from me.
24 That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?
25 I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and
the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of
foolishness and madness:
8:5 Whoever keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s
heart discerns both time and judgment.
9:16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor
man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that
rules among fools.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroys much good.
Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest on him, the spirit of
wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of
knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
29:24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they
that murmured shall learn doctrine.
Jer 9:23 Thus said the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in
his riches:
24 But let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD which exercise loving kindness, judgment, and
righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.
31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his
brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least
of them to the greatest of them, said the LORD: for I will forgive their
iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Dan 1:17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and
skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all
visions and dreams.
2:0 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever:
for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up
kings: he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know
understanding:
22 He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness,
and the light dwells with him.
23 I thank you, and praise you, O you God of my fathers, who have given me
wisdom and might, and have made known to me now what we desired of you: for
you have now made known to us the king’s matter.
5:1 There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods;
and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the
wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your
father, the king, I say, your father, made master of the magicians,
astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12 For as much as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding,
interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, and dissolving of
doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now
let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.
