SELFISHNESS
Mt 22:39 And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.
26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying,
O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not
as I will, but as you will.
Mr 4:18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear
the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the
lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
Lu 14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and
said to them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and
children, and brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot
be my disciple.
27 And whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple.
Joh 5:30 I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my
judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father
which has sent me.
6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him
that sent me.
8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will
do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stayed not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own:
for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Rom 2:5 But after your hardness and impenitent heart treasure up to
yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous
judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor
and immortality, eternal life:
8 But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey
unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey
it in the lusts thereof.
13:9 For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall
not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if
there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying,
namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
14:7 For none of us lives to himself, and no man dies to himself.
15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and
not to please ourselves.
2 Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification.
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches
of them that reproached you fell on me.
16:17 Now I beseech you, brothers, mark them which cause divisions and
offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own
belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
1 Cor 6:19 What? know you not that your body is the temple of the
Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?
20 For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and
in your spirit, which are God’s.
9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant to
all, that I might gain the more.
20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them
that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are
under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to
God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without
law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all
things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof
with you.
10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but
the profit of many, that they may be saved.
13:4 Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity braggs
not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked,
thinks no evil;
2 Cor 5:14 For the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus
judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not from now on
live to themselves, but to him which died for them, and rose again.
8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was
rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might
be rich.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by
the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust
of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:
and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the
things that you would.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections
and lusts.
Eph 2:1 And you has he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins;
2 Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works
in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of
our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by
nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4:22 That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which
is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Php 1:17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defense
of the gospel.
18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretense, or in truth,
Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of
mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of
others.
2:20 For I have no man like minded, who will naturally care for your state.
21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.
2 Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall
come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent,
fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
4:10 For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is
departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with you: for he is
profitable to me for the ministry.
Tit 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not
self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to
filthy lucre;
Heb 12:2 Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who
for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own
lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is
finished, brings forth death.
1 Pe 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
4:1 For as much then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm
yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the
flesh has ceased from sin;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the
lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have worked the will of
the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine,
revelings, parties, and abominable idolatries:
2 Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days
scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell
asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
1 Joh 3:17 But whoever has this world’s good, and sees his brother
have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the
love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in
deed and in truth.
Isa 56:10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all
dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.
11 Yes, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one
for his gain, from his quarter.
