Mt 5:27 You have heard that it was said by them
of old time, You shall not commit adultery: 28 But I say
to you, That whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has
committed adultery with her already in his heart.
18:7 Woe to the world because of offenses! for it must needs
be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the
offense comes!

God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of
their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between

law. 9 For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall

13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting
and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in

1 Cor 5:9 I wrote to you in an
letter not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not
altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the
covetous, or extortionists, or with idolaters; for then must
you needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written
to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a
brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a
reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortionist; with such an one
no not to eat.
6:13 Meats for the belly, and the
belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now
the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the
Lord for the body. 14 And God has both raised up the
Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 15 Know
you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I
then take the members of Christ, and make them the members
of an harlot? God forbid. 16 What? know you not that he
which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, said he,
shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined to the Lord
is one spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man
does is without the body; but he that commits fornication
sins against his own body. 19 What? know you not that
your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which you have of God, and you are not your own? 20 For
you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
7:1 Now
concerning the things whereof you wrote to me: It is good
for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid
fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every
woman have her own husband.
10:8 Neither let us
commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in
one day three and twenty thousand.

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as
I would, and that I shall be found to you such as you would
not: lest there be debates, contentions, wraths, strifes,

lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you,
and that I shall mourn many which have sinned already, and
have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and

this you know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor
covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the

therefore your members which are on the earth; fornication,
uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and
covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake
the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience: 7

that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For
men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that
brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us
that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish,

Heb 12:16 Lest there be any fornicator, or
profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his

13:4 Marriage is honorable in all, and
the bed undefiled: but fornicators and adulterers God will

promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine

Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making
them an ensample to those that after should live ungodly;
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation
of the wicked:
2:12 But these, as natural brute
beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the
things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in
their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of
unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in
the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting
themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with
you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot
cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have
exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity,
they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live
in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they
themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man
is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
1 Joh 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love
of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the
world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and
the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the
world. 17 And the world passes away, and the lust
thereof: but he that does the will of God stays for ever.
Jude 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers,
walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaks great
swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because

he listened not to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
Ex 20:14 You shall not commit adultery. 17 You
shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet
your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is
your neighbor’s.
22:19 Whoever lies with a beast
shall surely be put to death.

Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of
Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took
her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her; for she
was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned to her
house.
13:10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the meat
into the chamber, that I may eat of your hand. And Tamar
took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the
chamber to Amnon her brother. 11 And when she had brought
them to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her,
Come lie with me, my sister. 12 And she answered him, No,
my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be
done in Israel: do not you this folly. 13 And I, where
shall I cause my shame to go? and as for you, you shall be
as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you,
speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.
14 However, he would not listen to her voice: but, being
stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. 15 Then
Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which
he hated her was greater than the love with which he had
loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone.
Job 20:5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and
the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? 6 Though his
excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to
the clouds; 7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own
dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he? 8
He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yes,
he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
27:8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has
gained, when God takes away his soul?

Pr 2:16 To deliver you from the strange woman,

5:18 Let your fountain be
blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth. 19 Let
her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts
satisfy you at all times; and be you ravished always with
her love. 20 And why will you, my son, be ravished with a
strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;
and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24 To
keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the
tongue of a strange woman. 25 Lust not after her beauty
in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a
piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the
precious life. 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and
his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one go on hot coals,
and his feet not be burned? 29 So he that goes in to his
neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
6:32 But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks
understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul. 33
A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall
not be wiped away.
7:4 Say to wisdom, You are my
sister; and call understanding your kinswoman: 5 That
they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger
which flatters with her words. 6 For at the window of my
house I looked through my casement, 7 And beheld among
the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man
void of understanding, 8 Passing through the street near
her corner; and he went the way to her house, 9 In the
twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: 10
And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an
harlot, and subtle of heart. 11 (She is loud and
stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: 12 Now is she
without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every
corner.) 13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with
an impudent face said to him, 14 I have peace offerings
with me; this day have I paid my vows. 15 Therefore came
I forth to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I
have found you. 16 I have decked my bed with coverings of
tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. 17
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let
us solace ourselves with loves. 19 For the manager is not
at home, he is gone a long journey: 20 He has taken a bag
of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with
the flattering of her lips she forced him. 22 He goes
after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as
a fool to the correction of the stocks; 23 Till a dart
strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare,
and knows not that it is for his life. 24 Listen to me
now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my
mouth. 25 Let not your heart decline to her ways, go not
astray in her paths. 26 For she has cast down many
wounded: yes, many strong men have been slain by her. 27
Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of
death.
9:13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is
simple, and knows nothing. 14 For she sits at the door of
her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, 15
To call passengers who go right on their ways: 16 Whoever
is simple, let him turn in here: and as for him that wants
understanding, she said to him, 17 Stolen waters are
sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. 18 But he
knows not that the dead are there; and that her guests are
in the depths of hell.
21:10 The soul of the wicked
desires evil: his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
22:14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that
is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
23:27 For
a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow
pit. 28 She also lies in wait as for a prey, and
increases the transgressors among men.
27:20 Hell and
destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never
satisfied.
28:7 Whoever keeps the law is a wise son:
but he that is a companion of riotous men shames his father.
29:3 Whoever loves wisdom rejoices his father: but he
that keeps company with harlots spends his substance.
30:18 There be three things which are too wonderful for
me, yes, four which I know not: 19 The way of an eagle in
the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; the way of a ship
in the middle of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and
wipes her mouth, and said, I have done no wickedness.
Ec 1:8 All things are full of labor; man cannot
utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear
filled with hearing.
7:26 And I find more bitter than
death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her
hands as bands: whoever pleases God shall escape from her;
but the sinner shall be taken by her.
Jer 5:8 They
were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after
his neighbor’s wife. 9 Shall I not visit for these
things? said the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on
such a nation as this?
7:9 Will you steal, murder,
and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to
Baal, and walk after other gods whom you know not; 10 And
come and stand before me in this house, which is called by
my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these
abominations?
29:23 Because they have committed
villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their
neighbors’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name,
which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a
witness, said the LORD.
Hos 4:1 Hear the word
of the LORD, you children of Israel: for the LORD has a
controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there
is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and
committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches
blood.
4:10 For they shall eat, and not have enough:
they shall commit prostitution, and shall not increase:
because they have left off to take heed to the LORD. 11
Prostitution and wine and new wine take away the heart.
12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff
declares to them: for the spirit of prostitutions has caused
them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their
God.
4:18 Their drink is sour: they have committed
prostitution continually: her rulers with shame do love,
Give you.
5:4 They will not frame their doings to
turn to their God: for the spirit of prostitutions is in the
middle of them, and they have not known the LORD.
Mal 2:14 Yet you say, Why? Because the LORD has been
witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom
you have dealt treacherously: yet is she your companion, and
the wife of your covenant. 15 And did not he make one?
Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And why one? That he
might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit,
and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his
youth. 16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, said that he
hates putting away: for one covers violence with his
garment, said the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your
spirit, that you deal not treacherously.
Man without God
Mt 12:34 O generation of
vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out
of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good
man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good
things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings
forth evil things.
Joh 3:19 And this is the
condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men
loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were
evil. 20 For every one that does evil hates the light,
neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be
reproved. 21 But he that does truth comes to the light,
that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are worked in
God.
8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the
lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no
truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own:
for he is a liar, and the father of it.

6:17 But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin,
but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine
which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from
sin, you became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak
after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your
flesh: for as you have yielded your members servants to
uncleanness and to iniquity to iniquity; even so now yield
your members servants to righteousness to holiness.
8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of
the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of
the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to
be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to
the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they
that are in the flesh cannot please God.
1 Cor
2:14 But the natural man receives not the things of the
Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can
he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15
But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself
is judged of no man.
Eph 2:1 And you has he
quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2
Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of
this world, according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past
in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the
flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of
wrath, even as others.
4:17 This I say therefore, and
testify in the Lord, that you from now on walk not as other
Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the
understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God
through the ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have
given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all
uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so

wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every
imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil

Job

Fear of man
Mt 10:28 And fear not them
which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but
rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body
in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and
one of them shall not fall on the ground without your
Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all
numbered. 31 Fear you not therefore, you are of more
value than many sparrows.
Lu 12:4 And I say to
you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body,
and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I
will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, which after
he has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to

Joh 5:44 How can you believe, which receive honor
one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God

1 Cor 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing

yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judges me is the
Lord.
7:23 You are bought with a price; be not you
the servants of men.

1 Th 2:1 For yourselves, brothers, know

to speak to you the gospel of God with much contention. 3
For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness,
nor in guile: 4 But as we were allowed of God to be put
in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing
men, but God, which tries our hearts. 5 For neither at
any time used we flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak
of covetousness; God is witness: 6 Nor of men sought we
glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have
been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
Heb
13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
content with such things as you have: for he has said, I
will never leave you, nor forsake you. 6 So that we may
boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what
man shall do to me.
Rev 2:10 Fear none of
those things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil shall
cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and you
shall have tribulation ten days: be you faithful to death,
and I will give you a crown of life. 11 He that has an
ear, let him hear what the Spirit said to the churches; He
that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.
Ps 49:5 Why should I fear in the days of evil,
when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
56:1 Be merciful to me, O God: for man would swallow me
up; he fighting daily oppresses me. 2 My enemies would
daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me,
O you most High. 3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in
you. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put
my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.
56:9 When I cry to you, then shall my enemies turn back:
this I know; for God is for me. 10 In God will I praise

have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do to

Pr 29:25
The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust
in the LORD shall be safe.
Isa 51:7 Listen to
me, you that know righteousness, the people in whose heart
is my law; fear you not the reproach of men, neither be you
afraid of their revilings. 8 For the moth shall eat them
up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool:
but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation
from generation to generation.
51:12 I, even I, am he
that comforts you: who are you, that you should be afraid of
a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be
made as grass; 13 And forget the LORD your maker, that
has stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of
the earth; and have feared continually every day because of
the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy?
and where is the fury of the oppressor?

Self-exaltation and pride
Mt 23:11 But he
that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And
whoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that
shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Mr 7:20
And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles
the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men,
proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness,
an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these
evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Lu 1:51 He has showed strength with his arm; he has
scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
14:7 And he put forth a parable to those which were
bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms;
saying to them. 8 When you are bidden of any man to a
wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more
honorable man than you be bidden of him; 9 And he that
bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place;
and you begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 But
when you are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room;
that when he that bade you comes, he may say to you, Friend,
go up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of
them that sit at meat with you. 11 For whoever exalts
himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall
be exalted.
18:9 And he spoke this parable to certain
which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and
despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to
pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I
thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortionists,
unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast
twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so
much as his eyes to heaven, but smote on his breast, saying,
God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man
went down to his house justified rather than the other: for
every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that
humbles himself shall be exalted.
Acts 12:21
And on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his
throne, and made an oration to them. 22 And the people
gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a
man. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him,
because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of
worms, and gave up the ghost. 24 But the word of God grew
and multiplied.
17:18 Then certain philosophers of
the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And
some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seems
to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached to
them Jesus, and the resurrection.
Rom 1:29
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication,

12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to every man
that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than
he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God

12:10 Be
kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in
honor preferring one another;

mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but
condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own
conceits.
1 Cor 3:18 Let no man deceive
himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this
world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For
the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is
written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness. 20
And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that
they are vain. 21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For
all things are your’s;
4:7 For who makes you to
differ from another? and what have you that you did not
receive? now if you did receive it, why do you glory, as if
you had not received it?
4:18 Now some are puffed up,
as though I would not come to you. 19 But I will come to
you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech
of them which are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the
kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. 21 What will
you? shall I come to you with a rod, or in love, and in the
spirit of meekness?
5:2 And you are puffed up, and
have not rather mourned, that he that has done this deed
might be taken away from among you.
8:1 Now as
touching things offered to idols, we know that we all have
knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies. 2 And
if any man think that he knows any thing, he knows nothing
yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man love God, the
same is known of him.
10:12 Why let him that thinks
he stands take heed lest he fall.
13:4 Charity
suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity
braggs not itself, is not puffed up,

5:12 For we commend not ourselves again to you, but give you
occasion to glory on our behalf, that you may have somewhat
to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or
whether we be sober, it is for your cause.
10:12 For

ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they

glories, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that

what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from

may be found even as we.
11:16 I say again, Let no
man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me,
that I may boast myself a little. 17 That which I speak,
I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in
this confidence of boasting. 18 Seeing that many glory
after the flesh, I will glory also. 19 For you suffer
fools gladly, seeing you yourselves are wise. 20 For you
suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour
you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man
smite you on the face. 21 I speak as concerning reproach,
as though we had been weak. However, when ever any is bold,
(I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.
12:5 Of such an
one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in my
infirmities. 6 For though I would desire to glory, I
shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I
forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he
sees me to be, or that he hears of me. 7 And lest I
should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the
revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the
messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted
above measure.
Gal 6:3 For if a man think
himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives
himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then
shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in
another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
Php 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or
vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other
better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own
things, but every man also on the things of others.
2 Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for
that day shall not come, except there come a falling away
first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of
perdition; 4 Who opposes and exalts himself above all
that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God

1 Tim 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with
pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. 10
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall

4:13 Go to now, you that say, To day or
to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a
year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas you know
not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It
is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then
vanishes away. 15 For that you ought to say, If the Lord
will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now you
rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
1 Pe 5:5 Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves
to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and
be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and
gives grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore
under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due
time:
2 Pe 2:9 The Lord knows how to deliver
the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to
the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them
that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and
despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they
are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
2:18 For
when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure
through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness,
those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the
servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of
the same is he brought in bondage.

transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the

32:25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the
benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore
there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem. 26
Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of
his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that
the wrath of the LORD came not on them in the days of

6:5 And the king’s

whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?
Job 5:13 He takes the wise in their own
craftiness: and the counsel of the fraudulent is carried

slumberings on the bed; 16 Then he opens the ears of men,
and seals their instruction, 17 That he may withdraw man
from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
37:24 Men
do therefore fear him: he respects not any that are wise of

Ps 10:3 For the wicked boasts of his
heart’s desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD
abhors. 4 The wicked, through the pride of his
countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his
thoughts.
12:2 They speak vanity every one with his
neighbor: with flattering lips and with a double heart do
they speak. 3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips,
and the tongue that speaks proud things:
18:27 For
you will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high

love them. 33 And if you do good to them which do good to
you, what thank have you? for sinners also do even the same.
34 And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what
thank have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive
as much again.

and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed of
mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an
unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we
God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are
made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same
mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brothers, these
things ought not so to be. 11 Does a fountain send forth
at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig
tree, my brothers, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs?
so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brothers. He that speaks
evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of
the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you
are not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12 There is one
lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you
that judge another?
1 Pe 2:1 Why laying aside
all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, all

railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that
you are thereunto called, that you should inherit a

2 Pe 2:18 For when they speak great
swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of
the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean

that hides hatred with lying lips, and he that utters a
slander, is a fool. 19 In the multitude of words there
wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise. 20
The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the
wicked is little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed
many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
10:31 The
mouth of the just brings forth wisdom: but the fraudulent
tongue shall be cut out. 32 The lips of the righteous
know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks
frowardness.
11:9 An hypocrite with his mouth
destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just
be delivered.

There is that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the

be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a

12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD:
but they that deal truly are his delight. 23 A prudent
man conceals knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaims
foolishness.
13:2 A man shall eat good by the fruit
of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat
violence. 3 He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but
he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the

4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth
his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem
them that were under the law, that we might receive the
adoption of sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has
sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying,
Abba, Father. 7 Why you are no more a servant, but a son;
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two
covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which engenders to
bondage, which is Agar. 25 For this Agar is mount Sinai
in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem which now is, and is in
bondage with her children. 26 But Jerusalem which is
above is free, which is the mother of us all. 31 So then,

Jesus again to them, I go my way, and you shall seek me, and
shall die in your sins: where I go, you cannot come. 22
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he said,
Where I go, you cannot come. 23 And he said to them, You
are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I
am not of this world. 24 I said therefore to you, that
you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am
he, you shall die in your sins.
8:33 They answered
him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any
man: how say you, You shall be made free? 34 Jesus
answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits
sin is the servant of sin.

convinces me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not

all these things will they do to you for my name’s sake,

come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they

until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed

Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the
similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him
that was to come.
5:20 Moreover the law entered, that
the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did
much more abound: 21 That as sin has reigned to death,
even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal

6:1 What shall we say
then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any
longer therein? 6 Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that from now on we should not serve sin. 7 For he that
is dead is freed from sin.
6:10 For in that he died,
he died to sin once: but in that he lives, he lives to God.
11 Likewise reckon you also yourselves to be dead indeed to
sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you
should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield you
your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin: but
yield yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the
dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to
God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you
are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then?
shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under
grace? God forbid. 16 Know you not, that to whom you
yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to
whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to
righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that you were the
servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that
form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then
made free from sin, you became the servants of
righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because
of the infirmity of your flesh: for as you have yielded your
members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity to iniquity;
even so now yield your members servants to righteousness to
holiness. 20 For when you were the servants of sin, you
were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had you then
in those things whereof you are now ashamed? for the end of
those things is death. 22 But now being made free from
sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit to
holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages
of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
7:7 What shall we say then? Is
the law sin? God forbid. No, I had not known sin, but by the
law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, You
shall not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the
commandment, worked in me all manner of concupiscence. For
without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without
the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived,
and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was ordained to
life, I found to be to death. 11 For sin, taking occasion
by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
7:12 Why the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and
just, and good. 13 Was then that which is good made death
to me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin,
working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the
commandment might become exceeding sinful. 14 For we know
that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that
do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do
that which I would not, I consent to the law that it is
good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin
that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in
my flesh,) dwells no good thing: for to will is present with
me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I
would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it
is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is
present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after
the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members,
warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O
wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body
of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our
Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
8:2 For the law of
the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the
law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in
that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son
in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh:
8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body
is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of
righteousness.
11:26 And so all Israel shall be
saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the
Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27
For this is my covenant to them, when I shall take away

But when you sin so against the brothers, and wound their
weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

all things it behooved him to be made like to his brothers,

7:26 For such an high
priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate
from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who
needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up
sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the
people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness,
and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
9:6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the
priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing
the service of God. 7 But into the second went the high
priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he
offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the
foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the
world has he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of
himself. 27 And as it is appointed to men once to die,
but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once
offered to bear the sins of many; and to them that look for
him shall he appear the second time without sin to
salvation.
10:1 For the law having a shadow of good
things to come, and not the very image of the things, can
never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year
continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then
would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the
worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience
of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance
again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible
that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
10:11 And every priest stands daily ministering and
offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never
take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one
sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of
God;
10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I
remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is,
there is no more offering for sin.
10:26 For if we
sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of
the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, 27
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery
indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to
be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 Choosing
rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to
enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
12:1 Why
seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the
race that is set before us,

resisted to blood, striving against sin.

respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the
law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole
law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
4:17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it
not, to him it is sin.
5:15 And the prayer of faith
shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for
another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man avails much.

2:19 For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience
toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For
what glory is it, if, when you be buffeted for your faults,
you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and
suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable
with God. 21 For even hereunto were you called: because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you
should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was
guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled,
reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but
committed himself to him that judges righteously: 24 Who
his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that
we, being dead to sins, should live to righteousness: by
whose stripes you were healed.
3:18 For Christ also
has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he
might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but
quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and
preached to the spirits in prison;
4:1 For as much
then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm
yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has
suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; 2 That he no
longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the
lusts of men, but to the will of God.

all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for

that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacks
these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has

down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to
be reserved to judgment;
2:14 Having eyes full of
adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable
souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices;

the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one

your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

Whoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is
the transgression of the law. 5 And you know that he was
manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6
Whoever stays in him sins not: whoever sins has not seen
him, neither known him.
3:8 He that commits sin is of
the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy
the works of the devil. 9 Whoever is born of God does not
commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin,
because he is born of God.
4:10 Herein is love, not
that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to
be the propitiation for our sins.
5:16 If any man see
his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask,
and he shall give him life for them that sin not to death.
There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for
it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not
to death. 18 We know that whoever is born of God sins
not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that
wicked one touches him not.

heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you be not
partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her
plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God
has remembered her iniquities.
Ex 20:20 And
Moses said to the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove
you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you
sin not.
34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and
proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious,
long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and
transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the

1 Ki 14:22 And Judah

jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all
that their fathers had done.

understand his errors? cleanse you me from secret faults.
36:1 The transgression of the wicked said within my
heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. 2
For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity
be found to be hateful. 3 The words of his mouth are
iniquity and deceit: he has left off to be wise, and to do
good. 4 He devises mischief on his bed; he sets himself
in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil.
51:1
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving kindness:
according to the multitude of your tender mercies blot out
my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my
transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against
you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your
sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be
clear when you judge. 5 Behold, I was shaped in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
130:3 If you,
LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4
But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.
Pr 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin
is a reproach to any people.
20:9 Who can say, I have
made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an

The fall into sin and the inner man
Mr 7:20 And he
said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil
thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts,
covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil
eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil
things come from within, and defile the man.

2:23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the
feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the
miracles which he did. 24 But Jesus did not commit
himself to them, because he knew all men, 25 And needed
not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in
man.
3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Rom 3:9 What then? are we better

one judgment came on all men to condemnation; even so by the
righteousness of one the free gift came on all men to
justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s
disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of
one shall many be made righteous.
7:14 For we know
that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that
do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do
that which I would not, I consent to the law that it is
good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin
that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in
my flesh,) dwells no good thing: for to will is present with
me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I
would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it
is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21 I
find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present
with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the
inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members,
warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O
wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body
of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our
Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
1 Cor 15:21
For since by man came death, by man came also the
resurrection of the dead.
2 Cor 11:3 But I
fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through
his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the
simplicity that is in Christ.
Gal 3:22 But the
scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by
faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
1 Tim 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was
in the transgression.
Heb 4:12 For the word of
God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of
the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is
there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but
all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom
we have to do.
Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he
is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted
with evil, neither tempts he any man: 14 But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and
sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

From where come wars and fights among you? come they not
hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 You
lust, and have not: you kill, and desire to have, and cannot
obtain: you fight and war, yet you have not, because you ask
not.
1 Joh 1:8 If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If
we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his
word is not in us.

3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the

Yes, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the
garden? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat
of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the
fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God
has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch
it, lest you die. 4 And the serpent said to the woman,
You shall not surely die: 5 For God does know that in the
day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you
shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the
woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was
pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one
wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave
also to her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the
eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were
naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made
themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD
God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam
and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD
God among the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God
called to Adam, and said to him, Where are you? 10 And he
said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid,
because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said,
Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the
tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat? 12
And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she
gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the LORD God
said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the
woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14
And the LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done
this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast
of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you
eat all the days of your life: 15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and between your seed and her
seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his
heel. 16 To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply
your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring
forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband,
and he shall rule over you. 17 And to Adam he said,
Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and
have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying,
You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake;
in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and
you shall eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of
your face shall you eat bread, till you return to the
ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and
to dust shall you return. 20 And Adam called his wife’s
name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 To
Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of
skins, and clothed them. 22 And the LORD God said,
Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and
evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of
the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23
Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of
Eden, to till the ground from from where he was taken. 24
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the
garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned
every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
8:21
And the LORD smelled a sweet smell; and the LORD said in his
heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s
sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his
youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing
living, as I have done.
Num 15:39 And it shall

Job 14:4
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
15:14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which
is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? 15
Behold, he puts no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are

How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and
desperately wicked: who can know it?
Eze 20:43
And there shall you remember your ways, and all your doings,
wherein you have been defiled; and you shall loathe
yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you
have committed.
36:31 Then shall you remember your
own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall
loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and
for your abominations.
Zec 8:17 And let none
of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and
love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate,

Sinners
Mt 9:9 And
as Jesus passed forth from there, he saw a man, named
Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said to
him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. 10 And it
came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold,
many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and
his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they
said to his disciples, Why eats your Master with publicans
and sinners? 12 But when Jesus heard that, he said to
them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that
are sick. 13 But go you and learn what that means, I will
have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance.
11:18 For John
came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a
devil. 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and
they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a drunkard, a friend
of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her
children.
Lu 5:7 And they beckoned to their
partners, which were in the other ship, that they should
come and help them. And they came, and filled both the
ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw
it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me;
for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished,
and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes
which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John,
the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And
Jesus said to Simon, Fear not; from now on you shall catch
men.
6:32 For if you love them which love you, what
thank have you? for sinners also love those that love them.
33 And if you do good to them which do good to you, what
thank have you? for sinners also do even the same. 34 And
if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank
have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as
much again.
13:1 There were present at that season
some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had
mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said
to them, Suppose you that these Galilaeans were sinners
above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, No: but, except you repent, you shall all
likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen, on whom the tower
in Siloam fell, and slew them, think you that they were
sinners above all men that dwelled in Jerusalem? 5 I tell
you, No: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise
perish.
15:1 Then drew near to him all the publicans
and sinners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and
scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners, and
eats with them.
15:3 And he spoke this parable to
them, saying, 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep,
if he lose one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine
in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he
find it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his
shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls
together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice
with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I
say to you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one
sinner that repents, more than over ninety and nine just
persons, which need no repentance. 8 Either what woman
having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, does not
light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently
till she find it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls
her friends and her neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with
me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10
Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the
angels of God over one sinner that repents.
18:13 And
the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much
as his eyes to heaven, but smote on his breast, saying, God
be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went
down to his house justified rather than the other: for every
one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles
himself shall be exalted.
19:5 And when Jesus came to
the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said to him,
Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must
abide at your house. 6 And he made haste, and came down,
and received him joyfully. 7 And when they saw it, they
all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a
man that is a sinner.
Joh 9:15 Then again the
Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He
said to them, He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and do
see. 16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is
not of God, because he keeps not the sabbath day. Others
said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And
there was a division among them. 24 Then again called
they the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the
praise: we know that this man is a sinner. 25 He answered
and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one
thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
9:30 The man answered and said to them, Why herein is a
marvelous thing, that you know not from where he is, and yet
he has opened my eyes. 31 Now we know that God hears not
sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his
will, him he hears. 32 Since the world began was it not
heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born
blind. 33 If this man were not of God, he could do
nothing. 34 They answered and said to him, You were
altogether born in sins, and do you teach us? And they cast
him out.
Rom 3:7 For if the truth of God has
more abounded through my lie to his glory; why yet am I also
judged as a sinner? 8 And not rather, (as we be
slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let
us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
5:16 And not
as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the
judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of

disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of

8:3 For what the
law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for
sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Gal 2:15 We
who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we
ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the
minister of sin? God forbid.
1 Tim 1:8 But we
know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 9
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man,
but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for
sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers
and murderers of mothers, for murderers, 10 For
fornicators, for them that defile themselves with mankind,
for enslavers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there
be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all
acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save
sinners; of whom I am chief.
Heb 7:26 For such
an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of
sinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in
your minds.
Jas 4:8 Draw near to God, and he
will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and
purify your hearts, you double minded. 9 Be afflicted,
and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to
mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves
in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
5:19 Brothers, if any of you do err from the truth, and one
convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converts the
sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from
death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
1 Pe
4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the
house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the
end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if
the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and
the sinner appear?
Jude 1:14 And Enoch also,
the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold,
the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To
execute judgment on all, and to convince all that are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they
have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which
ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Ps
1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the
wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand
in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the
righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

11:31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the
earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

7:15 All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there
is a just man that perishes in his righteousness, and there
is a wicked man that prolongs his life in his wickedness.
8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not
executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is
fully set in them to do evil. 12 Though a sinner do evil
an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I
know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which
fear before him:

on the earth; that there be just men, to whom it happens
according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked
men, to whom it happens according to the work of the
righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
9:1 For
all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this,
that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in
the hand of God: no man knows either love or hatred by all
that is before them. 2 All things come alike to all:
there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to
the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that
sacrifices, and to him that sacrifices not: as is the good,
so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an
oath.
Judgement and contempt of others
Mt 7:1
Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what
judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what
measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3
And why behold you the mote that is in your brother’s eye,
but consider not the beam that is in your own eye? 4 Or
how will you say to your brother, Let me pull out the mote
out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own
eye; and then shall you see clearly to cast out the mote out
of your brother’s eye.
13:57 And they were offended
in him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without
honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
18:10 Take heed that you despise not one of these little
ones; for I say to you, That in heaven their angels do
always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
Lu 6:37 Judge not, and you shall not be judged:
condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and
you shall be forgiven:

18:9 And he spoke this

were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up
into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a
publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with
himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are,
extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I
possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would
not lift up so much as his eyes to heaven, but smote on his
breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell
you, this man went down to his house justified rather than
the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be
abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
23:11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nothing,
and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent
him again to Pilate.
Rom 2:1 Therefore you are
inexcusable, O man, whoever you are that judge: for wherein
you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you that judge
do the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment
of God is according to truth against them which commit such
things. 3 And think you this, O man, that judge them
which do such things, and do the same, that you shall escape
the judgment of God?
14:1 Him that is weak in the
faith receive you, but not to doubtful disputations. 2
For one believes that he may eat all things: another, who is
weak, eats herbs. 3 Let not him that eats despise him
that eats not; and let not him which eats not judge him that
eats: for God has received him. 4 Who are you that judge
another man’s servant? to his own master he stands or falls.
Yes, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteems one day above another: another esteems
every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own
mind. 6 He that regards the day, regards it to the Lord;
and he that regards not the day, to the Lord he does not
regard it. He that eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God
thanks; and he that eats not, to the Lord he eats not, and

14:10 But why do you judge your
brother? or why do you set at nothing your brother? for we
shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11

Hypocrisy - desire for praise

synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of

hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the

you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in
secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward
you openly.
6:16 Moreover when you fast, be not, as
the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure
their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Truly I

said to them that were there, This fellow was also with
Jesus of Nazareth. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I
do not know the man. 73 And after a while came to him
they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely you also are
one of them; for your speech denudes you. 74 Then began
he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And
immediately the cock crew.
Acts 23:12 And when
it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound
themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat
nor drink till they had killed Paul. 13 And they were
more than forty which had made this conspiracy. 14 And
they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have
bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat
nothing until we have slain Paul.
Heb 6:13 For
when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by
no greater, he swore by himself, 14 Saying, Surely
blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply
you. 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he
obtained the promise. 16 For men truly swear by the
greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of
all strife. 17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to
show to the heirs of promise the immutability of his
counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

above all things, my brothers, swear not, neither by heaven,
neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let
your yes be yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into
condemnation.
Gen 47:29 And the time drew near
that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said
to him, If now I have found grace in your sight, put, I pray
you, your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly
with me; bury me not, I pray you, in Egypt: 30 But I will
lie with my fathers, and you shall carry me out of Egypt,
and bury me in their burial plot. And he said, I will do as
you have said. 31 And he said, Swear to me. And he swore
to him. And Israel bowed himself on the bed’s head.
50:5 My father made me swear, saying, See, I die: in my
grave which I have dig for me in the land of Canaan, there
shall you bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray you,
and bury my father, and I will come again. 6 And Pharaoh
said, Go up, and bury your father, according as he made you
swear.
Ex 20:7 You shall not take the name of
the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him
guiltless that takes his name in vain.
Lev 5:4
Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or
to do good, whatever it be that a man shall pronounce with
an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knows of it, then
he shall be guilty in one of these. 5 And it shall be,
when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he
shall confess that he has sinned in that thing:

Zec 5:3 Then said he to me, This is the curse
that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: for every
one that steals shall be cut off as on this side according
to it; and every one that swears shall be cut off as on that

Stealing
Mt 6:19 Lay not
up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not
break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also.
Mr 7:21 For
from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts,
adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts,
covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil

The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they
might have it more abundantly.
Rom 13:9 For
this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You

Eph 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather
let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is

Hos 4:1 Hear
the word of the LORD, you children of Israel: for the LORD
has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because
there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the
land. 2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and
stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood
touches blood. 3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and
every one that dwells therein shall languish, with the
beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yes, the
fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
