Mt 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony
places, the same is he that hears the word, and immediately
with joy receives it; 21 Yet has he not root in himself,
but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution
rises because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears
the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness
of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was
not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor
ever shall be.
Lu 12:49 I am come to send fire
on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I
straitened till it be accomplished!
15:14 And when he
had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and

21:25 And there shall
be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and
on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea

fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on
the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to
enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all
the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the
things concerning himself.
Joh 12:27 Now is my
soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from
this hour: but for this cause came I to this hour. 28
Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from
heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify
it again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and
heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel
spoke to him. 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came
not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the
judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world
be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth,
will draw all men to me. 33 This he said, signifying what
death he should die.
16:33 These things I have spoken
to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you
shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have
overcome the world.
Acts 9:15 But the Lord
said to him, Go your way: for he is a chosen vessel to me,
to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the
children of Israel: 16 For I will show him how great
things he must suffer for my name’s sake.
14:21 And
when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had
taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium,
and Antioch, 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples,
and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we
must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
20:22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit to
Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me
there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesses in every
city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But
none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear
to myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and
the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to
testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Rom
2:9 Tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man that does
evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But
glory, honor, and peace, to every man that works good, to
the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
5:1 Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith
into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the
glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in
tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And
hope makes not ashamed; because the love of God is shed
abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given to us.
8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and
joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him,
that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon
that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to
be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written,
For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 No, in all these
things we are more than conquerors through him that loved
us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things
present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from
the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing
instant in prayer;
1 Cor 4:9 For I think that
God has set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed
to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to
angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ’s sake,
but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong;
you are honorable, but we are despised. 11 Even to this
present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and
are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place; 12 And
labor, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless;
being persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we
entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the
offscouring of all things to this day. 14 I write not
these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn
you.
7:28 But and if you marry, you have not sinned;
and if a virgin marry, she has not sinned. Nevertheless such
shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
10:12 Why let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he
fall. 13 There has no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you
to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able
to bear it.
11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we
should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are
chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with
the world.
12:26 And whether one member suffer, all
the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all
the members rejoice with it.
13:4 Charity suffers
long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity braggs not
itself, is not puffed up, 5 Does not behave itself
unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks
no evil; 6 Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the
truth; 7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.
2 Cor 1:3 Blessed
be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforts us
in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them
which are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings
of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by
Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your
consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the
enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or
whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and
salvation. 7 And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing,
that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so shall you be
also of the consolation. 8 For we would not, brothers,
have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia,
that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that
we despaired even of life: 9 But we had the sentence of
death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves,
but in God which raises the dead: 10 Who delivered us
from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust
that he will yet deliver us;
2:4 For out of much
affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many
tears; not that you should be grieved, but that you might
know the love which I have more abundantly to you.
4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are
perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not
forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing
about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life
also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For
we which live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake,
that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our
mortal flesh. 12 So then death works in us, but life in
you.
4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though
our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by
day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a
moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight
of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are
seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things
which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not
seen are eternal.
6:3 Giving no offense in any thing,
that the ministry be not blamed: 4 But in all things
approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much
patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in
watchings, in fastings; 6 By pureness, by knowledge, by
long-suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love
unfeigned, 7 By the word of truth, by the power of God,
by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the
left, 8 By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good
report: as deceivers, and yet true; 9 As unknown, and yet
well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened,
and not killed; 10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as
poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet
possessing all things.
7:4 Great is my boldness of
speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled
with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no
rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were
fights, within were fears. 6 Nevertheless God, that
comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the
coming of Titus;
8:1 Moreover, brothers, we do you to
wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of
Macedonia; 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the
abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to
the riches of their liberality.
11:18 Seeing that
many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. 19 For you
suffer fools gladly, seeing you yourselves are wise. 20
For you suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man
devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if
a man smite you on the face. 21 I speak as concerning
reproach, as though we had been weak. However, when ever any
is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. 22 Are they
Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the
seed of Abraham? so am I. 23 Are they ministers of
Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more
abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more
frequent, in deaths oft. 24 Of the Jews five times
received I forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice was I beaten
with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a
night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 In journeys
often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils
by my own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in
the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea,
in perils among false brothers; 27 In weariness and
painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in
fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 28 Beside those
things that are without, that which comes on me daily, the
care of all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not
weak? who is offended, and I burn not? 30 If I must needs
glory, I will glory of the things which concern my
infirmities.
12:7 And lest I should be exalted above
measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was
given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to
buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For
this thing I sought the Lord thrice, that it might depart
from me. 9 And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for
you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most
gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest on me. 10 Therefore I take
pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in
persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am
weak, then am I strong.
Gal 6:17 From now on
let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of
the Lord Jesus.
Eph 3:13 Why I desire that you
faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you
that you walk worthy of the vocation with which you are
called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with
long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;
Php 1:29 For to you it is given in the behalf of Christ,
not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
30 Having the same conflict which you saw in me, and now
hear to be in me.
3:10 That I may know him, and the
power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his
sufferings, being made conformable to his death; 11 If by
any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead.
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for
you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of
Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the
dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfill
the word of God;

longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens

truly, when we were with you, we told you before that we
should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and you

2 Th 1:4 So that we ourselves glory in
you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in
all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure: 5
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God,
that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for
which you also suffer: 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing
with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord
Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
1 Tim 5:9 Let not a widow be taken into the
number under three score years old, having been the wife of
one man. 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have
brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she
have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the
afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
2 Tim 1:8 Be not you therefore ashamed of the
testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be you
partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the
power of God;
1:12 For the which cause I also suffer
these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom
I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep
that which I have committed to him against that day.
2:3 You therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of
Jesus Christ. 4 No man that wars entangles himself with
the affairs of this life; that he may please him who has
chosen him to be a soldier.
2:8 Remember that Jesus
Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead
according to my gospel: 9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an
evil doer, even to bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that
they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus
with eternal glory.
2:11 It is a faithful saying: For
if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him,
he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he stays
faithful: he cannot deny himself.
2:15 Study to show
yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
3:10 But
you have fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose,
faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, 11
Persecutions, afflictions, which came to me at Antioch, at
Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of
them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all that will
live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower
than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with
glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste
death for every man. 10 For it became him, for whom are
all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many
sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation
perfect through sufferings.
10:32 But call to
remembrance the former days, in which, after you were
illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions; 33
Partly, whilst you were made a spectacle both by reproaches
and afflictions; and partly, whilst you became companions of
them that were so used. 34 For you had compassion of me
in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods,
knowing in yourselves that you have in heaven a better and
an enduring substance. 35 Cast not away therefore your
confidence, which has great recompense of reward. 36 For
you have need of patience, that, after you have done the
will of God, you might receive the promise.
11:24 By
faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called
the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 Choosing rather to
suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach
of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he
had respect to the recompense of the reward. 27 By faith
he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he
endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
11:35 Women
received their dead raised to life again: and others were
tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain
a better resurrection: 36 And others had trial of cruel
mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of bonds and
imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn
asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they
wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute,
afflicted, tormented; 38 (Of whom the world was not
worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in
dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having
obtained a good report through faith, received not the
promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us,
that they without us should not be made perfect.
12:3
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners
against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your
minds. 4 You have not yet resisted to blood, striving
against sin.
12:5 And you have forgotten the
exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son,
despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when
you are rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loves he
chastens, and whips every son whom he receives. 7 If you
endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what
son is he whom the father chastens not? 8 But if you be
without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are
you bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had
fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them
reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the
Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they truly for a few
days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our
profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11
Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but
grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable
fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.
Jas 1:2 My brothers, count it all joy when you
fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the
trying of your faith works patience. 4 But let patience
have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire,
wanting nothing.
1:12 Blessed is the man that endures
temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown
of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God:
for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any
man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away
of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust has
conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is
finished, brings forth death.
1:27 Pure religion and
undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the
fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep
himself unspotted from the world.
5:10 Take, my
brothers, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the
Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of
patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure.
You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end
of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender
mercy.
5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray.
Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
1 Pe 1:6
Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if
need be, you are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious
than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire,
might be found to praise and honor and glory at the
appearing of Jesus Christ:
1:10 Of which salvation
the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who
prophesied of the grace that should come to you: 11
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ
which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand
the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
2:19 For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience
toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For
what glory is it, if, when you be buffeted for your faults,
you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and
suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable
with God. 21 For even hereunto were you called: because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you
should follow his steps:
3:13 And who is he that will
harm you, if you be followers of that which is good? 14
But and if you suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are
you: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready
always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason
of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16
Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of
you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely
accuse your good conversation in Christ. 17 For it is
better, if the will of God be so, that you suffer for well
doing, than for evil doing. 18 For Christ also has once
suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might
bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but
quickened by the Spirit:
4:1 For as much then as
Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves
likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the
flesh has ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should
live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men,
but to the will of God.
4:12 Beloved, think it not
strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as
though some strange thing happened to you: 13 But
rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s
sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may
be glad also with exceeding joy.
4:14 If you be
reproached for the name of Christ, happy are you; for the
spirit of glory and of God rests on you: on their part he is
evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But
let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as
an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be
ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 19 Why
let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the
keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as to a
faithful Creator.
5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because
your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about,
seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in
the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are
accomplished in your brothers that are in the world. 10
But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal
glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while,
make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11
To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and
companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of
Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the
word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
2:8 And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These
things said the first and the last, which was dead, and is
alive; 9 I know your works, and tribulation, and poverty,
(but you are rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which
say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of
Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which you shall
suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into
prison, that you may be tried; and you shall have
tribulation ten days: be you faithful to death, and I will
give you a crown of life. 11 He that has an ear, let him
hear what the Spirit said to the churches; He that overcomes
shall not be hurt of the second death.
2:21 And I
gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she
repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and
them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation,
except they repent of their deeds.
3:19 As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and
repent.
7:9 After this I beheld, and, see, a great
multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and
kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne,
and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in
their hands; 13 And one of the elders answered, saying to
me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and
from where came they? 14 And I said to him, Sir, you
know. And he said to me, These are they which came out of
great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made
them white in the blood of the Lamb.
12:11 And they
overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of
their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the
death.
Gen 3:16 To the woman he said, I will
greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow
you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to
your husband, and he shall rule over you. 17 And to Adam
he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your
wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you,
saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for
your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of
your life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring
forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field; 19
In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you
return to the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust
you are, and to dust shall you return.
41:50 And to
Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came,
which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore
to him. 51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn
Manasseh: For God, said he, has made me forget all my toil,
and all my father’s house. 52 And the name of the second
called he Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in
the land of my affliction.
45:5 Now therefore be not
grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here:
for God did send me before you to preserve life. 6 For
these two years has the famine been in the land: and yet
there are five years, in the which there shall neither be
ripening nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to
preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your
lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you
that sent me here, but God: and he has made me a father to
Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout
all the land of Egypt.
50:19 And Joseph said to them,
Fear not: for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for
you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it to good,
to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people
alive.
Ex 1:11 Therefore they did set over
them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And
they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they
multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the
children of Israel. 13 And the Egyptians made the
children of Israel to serve with rigor: 14 And they made
their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in
brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their
service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor.
De 4:27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the
nations, and you shall be left few in number among the
heathen, where the LORD shall lead you. 28 And there you
shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone,
which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. 29 But
if from there you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall
find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all
your soul. 30 When you are in tribulation, and all these
things are come on you, even in the latter days, if you turn
to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient to his voice;
8:2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD
your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, to
humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in your
heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or no. 3
And he humbled you, and suffered you to hunger, and fed you
with manna, which you knew not, neither did your fathers
know; that he might make you know that man does not live by
bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth
of the LORD does man live. 4 Your raiment waxed not old
on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years. 5
You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man
chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.
Judges 3:1 Now these are the nations which the LORD
left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had
not known all the wars of Canaan; 2 Only that the
generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach
them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
1 Sam 22:1 David therefore departed there, and
escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brothers and all
his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.
2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was
in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered
themselves to him; and he became a captain over them: and
there were with him about four hundred men.

33:9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem
to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had
destroyed before the children of Israel. 10 And the LORD
spoke to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not
listen. 11 Why the LORD brought on them the captains of
the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among
the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to
Babylon. 12 And when he was in affliction, he sought the
LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of
his fathers, 13 And prayed to him: and he was entreated
of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to
Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD
he was God.
Neh 9:27 Therefore you delivered
them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in
the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard
them from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you
gave them saviors, who saved them out of the hand of their
enemies. 28 But after they had rest, they did evil again
before you: therefore left you them in the land of their
enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when
they returned, and cried to you, you heard them from heaven;
and many times did you deliver them according to your
mercies;
Job 1:1 There was a man in the land
of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and
upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
1:20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his
head, and fell down on the ground, and worshipped, 21 And
said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall
I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken
away; blessed be the name of the LORD. 22 In all this Job
sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
2:7 So went
Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job
with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown. 8
And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself with; and he
sat down among the ashes. 9 Then said his wife to him, Do
you still retain your integrity? curse God, and die. 10
But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women
speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and
shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with
his lips.
3:1 After this opened Job his mouth, and
cursed his day. 2 And Job spoke, and said, 3 Let the
day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was
said, There is a man child conceived. 4 Let that day be
darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the
light shine on it.
3:11 Why died I not from the womb?
why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the
belly? 12 Why did the knees prevent me? or why the
breasts that I should suck? 13 For now should I have lain
still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been
at rest, 16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not
been; as infants which never saw light.
3:20 Why is
light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter
in soul; 21 Which long for death, but it comes not; and
dig for it more than for hid treasures; 22 Which rejoice
exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom
God has hedged in? 24 For my sighing comes before I eat,
and my roarings are poured out like the waters. 25 For
the thing which I greatly feared is come on me, and that
which I was afraid of is come to me. 26 I was not in
safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble
came.
5:6 Although affliction comes not forth of the
dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground; 7
Yet man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
5:17 Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects:
therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty:
18 For he makes sore, and binds up: he wounds, and his hands
make whole.
6:8 Oh that I might have my request; and
that God would grant me the thing that I long for! 9 Even
that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let
loose his hand, and cut me off! 10 Then should I yet have
comfort; yes, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not
spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.
11 What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my
end, that I should prolong my life? 12 Is my strength the
strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass? 13 Is not my
help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
7:1
Is there not an appointed time to man on earth? are not his
days also like the days of an hireling? 2 As a servant
earnestly desires the shadow, and as an hireling looks for
the reward of his work: 3 So am I made to possess months
of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me. 4
When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be
gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro to the dawning of
the day. 5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of
dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome. 6 My days
are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without
hope. 7 O remember that my life is wind: my eye shall no
more see good.
7:16 I loathe it; I would not live
always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
9:25
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they
see no good. 26 They are passed away as the swift ships:
as the eagle that hastens to the prey. 27 If I say, I
will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and
comfort myself: 28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know
that you will not hold me innocent.
10:18 Why then
have you brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had
given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! 19 I should
have been as though I had not been; I should have been
carried from the womb to the grave. 20 Are not my days
few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a
little,
12:5 He that is ready to slip with his feet
is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
19:8 He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he
has set darkness in my paths. 9 He has stripped me of my
glory, and taken the crown from my head. 10 He has
destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has
he removed like a tree.
19:13 He has put my brothers
far from me, and my acquaintance are truly estranged from
me. 14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends
have forgotten me. 15 They that dwell in my house, and my
maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their
sight. 16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer;
I entreated him with my mouth. 17 My breath is strange to
my wife, though I entreated for the children’s sake of my
own body. 18 Yes, young children despised me; I arose,
and they spoke against me. 19 All my inward friends
abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
29:1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said, 2
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God
preserved me; 3 When his candle shined on my head, and
when by his light I walked through darkness; 4 As I was
in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was on my
tabernacle; 5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my
children were about me; 6 When I washed my steps with
butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil; 18 Then
I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days
as the sand.
30:20 I cry to you, and you do not hear
me: I stand up, and you regard me not.
33:14 For God
speaks once, yes twice, yet man perceives it not. 15 In a
dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on
men, in slumberings on the bed; 16 Then he opens the ears
of men, and seals their instruction, 17 That he may
withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from
perishing by the sword. 19 He is chastened also with pain
on his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
36:7 He withdraws not his eyes from the righteous: but
with kings are they on the throne; yes, he does establish
them for ever, and they are exalted. 8 And if they be
bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction; 9
Then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that
they have exceeded. 10 He opens also their ear to
discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.
36:15 He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens
their ears in oppression.
36:18 Because there is
wrath, beware lest he take you away with his stroke: then a
great ransom cannot deliver you.
Ps 4:1 Hear
me when I call, O God of my righteousness: you have enlarged
me when I was in distress; have mercy on me, and hear my
prayer.
22:1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken
me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words
of my roaring? 2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but you
hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent. 3
But you are holy, O you that inhabit the praises of Israel.
30:5 For his anger endures but a moment; in his favor is
life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the
morning. 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be
moved. 7 LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to
stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled.
34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and
saved him out of all his troubles.
34:17 The
righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of
all their troubles. 18 The LORD is near to them that are
of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite
spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but
the LORD delivers him out of them all.
37:39 But the
salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their
strength in the time of trouble. 40 And the LORD shall
help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the
wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
42:1 As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my
soul after you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the
living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My
tears have been my meat day and night, while they
continually say to me, Where is your God? 4 When I
remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had
gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of
God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that
kept holy day. 5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? and
why are you disquieted in me? hope you in God: for I shall
yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my
God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I
remember you from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites,
from the hill Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep at the noise of
your waterspouts: all your waves and your billows are gone
over me. 8 Yet the LORD will command his loving kindness
in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me,
and my prayer to the God of my life. 9 I will say to God
my rock, Why have you forgotten me? why go I mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy? 10 As with a
sword in my bones, my enemies reproach me; while they say
daily to me, Where is your God? 11 Why are you cast down,
O my soul? and why are you disquieted within me? hope you in
God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my
countenance, and my God.
50:15 And call on me in the
day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify
me.
66:9 Which holds our soul in life, and suffers
not our feet to be moved. 10 For you, O God, have proved
us: you have tried us, as silver is tried. 11 You brought
us into the net; you laid affliction on our loins. 12 You
have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire
and through water: but you brought us out into a wealthy
place.
69:1 Save me, O God; for the waters are come
in to my soul. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no
standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods
overflow me. 3 I am weary of my crying: my throat is
dried: my eyes fail while I wait for my God. 4 They that
hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head:
they that would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are
mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
71:20 You, which have showed me great and sore troubles,
shall quicken me again, and shall bring me up again from the
depths of the earth.
84:5 Blessed is the man whose
strength is in you; in whose heart are the ways of them.
6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the
rain also fills the pools. 7 They go from strength to
strength, every one of them in Zion appears before God.
88:1 O lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and
night before you: 2 Let my prayer come before you:
incline your ear to my cry; 3 For my soul is full of
troubles: and my life draws near to the grave. 4 I am
counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man
that has no strength: 5 Free among the dead, like the
slain that lie in the grave, whom you remember no more: and
they are cut off from your hand. 6 You have laid me in
the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. 7 Your wrath
lies hard on me, and you have afflicted me with all your

from me; you have made me an abomination to them: I am shut
up, and I cannot come forth. 9 My eye mourns by reason of
affliction: LORD, I have called daily on you, I have
stretched out my hands to you. 10 Will you show wonders
to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise you? Selah.
11 Shall your loving kindness be declared in the grave? or
your faithfulness in destruction? 12 Shall your wonders
be known in the dark? and your righteousness in the land of
forgetfulness? 13 But to you have I cried, O LORD; and in
the morning shall my prayer prevent you. 14 LORD, why
cast you off my soul? why hide you your face from me? 15
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I
suffer your terrors I am distracted. 16 Your fierce wrath
goes over me; your terrors have cut me off. 17 They came
round about me daily like water; they compassed me about
together. 18 Lover and friend have you put far from me,
and my acquaintance into darkness.
107:10 Such as sit
in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in
affliction and iron; 11 Because they rebelled against the
words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor; they
fell down, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried
to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them out of their
distresses. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the
shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder. 15 Oh
that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his
wonderful works to the children of men!
118:5 I
called on the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and
set me in a large place. 6 The LORD is on my side; I will
not fear: what can man do to me? 7 The LORD takes my part
with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire on
them that hate me. 8 It is better to trust in the LORD
than to put confidence in man. 9 It is better to trust in
the LORD than to put confidence in princes.
119:49
Remember the word to your servant, on which you have caused
me to hope. 50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for
your word has quickened me.
119:67 Before I was
afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept your word.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I
might learn your statutes. 75 I know, O LORD, that your
judgments are right, and that you in faithfulness have

119:116 Uphold me according to your

He is in the way of life that keeps instruction: but he that

17:3 The fining pot is for
silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD tries the
hearts.
Ec 4:1 So I returned, and considered
all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold
the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no
comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was
power; but they had no comforter. 2 Why I praised the
dead which are already dead more than the living which are
yet alive. 3 Yes, better is he than both they, which has
not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done
under the sun.
Isa 8:20 To the law and to the
testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is
because there is no light in them. 21 And they shall pass
through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to
pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret
themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look
upward. 22 And they shall look to the earth; and behold
trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be
driven to darkness.
30:19 For the people shall dwell
in Zion at Jerusalem: you shall weep no more: he will be
very gracious to you at the voice of your cry; when he shall
hear it, he will answer you. 20 And though the Lord give
you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet
shall not your teachers be removed into a corner any more,
but your eyes shall see your teachers: 21 And your ears
shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk
you in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when you
turn to the left.
48:10 Behold, I have refined you,
but not with silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of
affliction. 11 For my own sake, even for my own sake,
will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will
not give my glory to another.
50:10 Who is among you
that fears the LORD, that obeys the voice of his servant,
that walks in darkness, and has no light? let him trust in
the name of the LORD, and stay on his God.

all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his
presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed

Jer 9:6 Your habitation is in the middle
of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, said the

will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the

20:14 Cursed be the day
wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bore

that my days should be consumed with shame?
29:11 For
I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected
end. 12 Then shall you call on me, and you shall go and
pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Lam 3:1
I AM the man that has seen affliction by the rod of his
wrath. 2 He has led me, and brought me into darkness, but
not into light. 6 He has set me in dark places, as they
that be dead of old. 7 He has hedged me about, that I
cannot get out: he has made my chain heavy. 8 Also when I
cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.
3:17 And you
have removed my soul far off from peace: I forgot
prosperity. 18 And I said, My strength and my hope is
perished from the LORD: 19 Remembering my affliction and
my misery, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul has them
still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. 21 This I
recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
3:24 The
LORD is my portion, said my soul; therefore will I hope in
him. 25 The LORD is good to them that wait for him, to
the soul that seeks him. 26 It is good that a man should
both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
3:31 For the LORD will not cast off for ever: 32 But
though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according
to the multitude of his mercies. 33 For he does not
afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.
3:38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceeds not evil and
good? 39 Why does a living man complain, a man for the
punishment of his sins?
Eze 37:11 Then he said
to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of
Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope
is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

11:33 And they that understand among the people shall
instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by
flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. 34 Now when
they shall fall, they shall be helped with a little help:

12:10 Many
shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked
shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand;

go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their
offense, and seek my face: in their affliction they will
seek me early.

third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver
is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall

people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

Mt 6:25 Therefore I say to you,
Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what
you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put
on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than
raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow
not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than
they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit
to his stature? 28 And why take you thought for raiment?
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil

even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of
these. 30 Why, if God so clothe the grass of the field,
which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall
he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for
your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these
things. 33 But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow
shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to
the day is the evil thereof.
Lu 21:34 And take
heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be
overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of
this life, and so that day come on you unawares. 35 For
as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face
of the whole earth.
22:35 And he said to them, When I
sent you without purse, and money, and shoes, lacked you any
thing? And they said, Nothing.
Rom 10:12 For
there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for
the same Lord over all is rich to all that call on him.

Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice
them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together
for them, to suffice them? 23 And the LORD said to Moses,
Is the LORD’s hand waxed short? you shall see now whether my
word shall come to pass to you or not. 31 And there went
forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea,
and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on
this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side,
round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high on the
face of the earth. 32 And the people stood up all that
day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they
gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten
homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round

De 2:7 For the LORD your God
has blessed you in all the works of your hand: he knows your
walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the

not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little
oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that
I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat
it, and die. 13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and
do as you have said: but make me thereof a little cake
first, and bring it to me, and after make for you and for
your son. 14 For thus said the LORD God of Israel, The
barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of
oil fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the
earth. 15 And she went and did according to the saying of
Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse
of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he
spoke by Elijah.

will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my
high tower. 3 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to

18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD
is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we

strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am
helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my

will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though
the mountains be carried into the middle of the sea; 3
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the

55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and he shall sustain

your dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge
over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 They shall
bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against
a stone. 13 You shall tread on the lion and adder: the
young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet.
14 Because he has set his love on me, therefore will I
deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my
name. 15 He shall call on me, and I will answer him: I
will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor
him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him
my salvation.
94:22 But the LORD is my defense; and
my God is the rock of my refuge.

The LORD preserves the simple: I was brought low, and he

the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. 6 The
LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do to me?
7 The LORD takes my part with them that help me: therefore
shall I see my desire on them that hate me. 8 It is
better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence
in princes.
119:114 You are my hiding place and my
shield: I hope in your word.
121:1 I will lift up my
eyes to the hills, from where comes my help. 2 My help
comes from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. 3 He

125:1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount

127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain
that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman
wakes but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he gives
his beloved sleep.

darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about
me. 12 Yes, the darkness hides not from you; but the
night shines as the day: the darkness and the light are both
alike to you.
140:1 Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil
man: preserve me from the violent man; 2 Which imagine
mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered
together for war. 3 They have sharpened their tongues
like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me
from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my
goings.
145:20 The LORD preserves all them that love
him: but all the wicked will he destroy.
146:3 Put
not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom
there is no help. 4 His breath goes forth, he returns to

Isa 41:10 Fear

Dan 3:16
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the
king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer you in
this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is
able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he
will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not,
be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your
gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his
visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego:
therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the
furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his
army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast
them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these men
were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and
their other garments, and were cast into the middle of the
burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore because the king’s
commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the
flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the middle of
the burning fiery furnace. 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the
king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and
said to his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound
into the middle of the fire? They answered and said to the
king, True, O king. 25 He answered and said, See, I see
four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and they
have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of
God. 26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the
burning fiery furnace, and spoke, and said, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the most high God,
come forth, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, came forth of the middle of the fire. 27 And
the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s
counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, on
whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their
head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell
of fire had passed on them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke,
and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants
that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and
yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship
any god, except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a
decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak
any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be
made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can
deliver after this sort.
6:22 My God has sent his
angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not
hurt me: for as much as before him innocence was found in
me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.
God's wisdom and help

10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or
what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same

were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also
helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray
for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my

2 Cor 3:4 And
such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 Not that
we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of
ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 Who also has
made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the
letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the
spirit gives life.
4:7 But we have this treasure in
earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of
God, and not of us.
12:5 Of such an one will I glory:
yet of myself I will not glory, but in my infirmities. 9
And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my
strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore
will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of
Christ may rest on me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in
infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions,
in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am
I strong.
13:4 For though he was crucified through
weakness, yet he lives by the power of God. For we also are
weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God

the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be

Endurance
Mt 10:22 And you shall
be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endures
to the end shall be saved.
13:20 But he that received
the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the
word, and immediately with joy receives it; 21 Yet has he
not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when
tribulation or persecution rises because of the word, by and
by he is offended.
24:9 Then shall they deliver you
up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be
hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then
shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and
shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall
rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity
shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he
that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.
Lu 21:17 And you shall be hated of all men for my
name’s sake. 18 But there shall not an hair of your head
perish. 19 In your patience possess you your souls.
Acts 11:22 Then tidings of these things came to

deceivers, and yet true; 9 As unknown, and yet well
known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not
killed; 10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor,
yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing
all things.
Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in
the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not
entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
6:9 And let
us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall
reap, if we faint not.
Eph 6:18 Praying always
with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching

Heb 3:5 And
Moses truly was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for
a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are
we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the
hope firm to the end. 14 For we are made partakers of
Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast
to the end;
4:14 Seeing then that we have a great
high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son
of God, let us hold fast our profession.
6:10 For God
is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love,
which you have showed toward his name, in that you have
ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we
desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to
the full assurance of hope to the end: 12 That you be not
slothful, but followers of them who through faith and
patience inherit the promises.
6:13 For when God made
promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he
swore by himself, 14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless
you, and multiplying I will multiply you. 15 And so,
after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full
assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let
us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
(for he is faithful that promised;)
10:32 But call to
remembrance the former days, in which, after you were
illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions; 33
Partly, whilst you were made a spectacle both by reproaches
and afflictions; and partly, whilst you became companions of
them that were so used. 34 For you had compassion of me
in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods,
knowing in yourselves that you have in heaven a better and
an enduring substance. 35 Cast not away therefore your
confidence, which has great recompense of reward. 36 For
you have need of patience, that, after you have done the
will of God, you might receive the promise.
12:1 Why
seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the
race that is set before us, 2 Looking to Jesus the author
and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set
before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For
consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners
against himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your
minds. 4 You have not yet resisted to blood, striving
against sin.
Jas 1:2 My brothers, count it all
joy when you fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing
this, that the trying of your faith works patience. 4 But
let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect
and entire, wanting nothing.
5:7 Be patient
therefore, brothers, to the coming of the Lord. Behold, the
farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has
long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter
rain. 8 Be you also patient; establish your hearts: for
the coming of the Lord draws near.
5:10 Take, my
brothers, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the
Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of
patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure.
You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end
of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender
mercy.
1 Pe 1:6 Wherein you greatly rejoice,
though now for a season, if need be, you are in heaviness
through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your
faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes,
though it be tried with fire, might be found to praise and
honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
2:19 For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience
toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For
what glory is it, if, when you be buffeted for your faults,
you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and
suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable
with God.
5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking
whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith,
knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your
brothers that are in the world. 10 But the God of all
grace, who has called us to his eternal glory by Christ
Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you
perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.
2 Pe
1:10 Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your
calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you
shall never fall:
Rev 2:2 I know your works,
and your labor, and your patience, and how you can not bear
them which are evil: and you have tried them which say they
are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars: 3
And have borne, and have patience, and for my name’s sake
have labored, and have not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have
somewhat against you, because you have left your first love.
2:10 Fear none of those things which you shall suffer:
behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that
you may be tried; and you shall have tribulation ten days:
be you faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of
life.
13:10 He that leads into captivity shall go
into captivity: he that kills with the sword must be killed
with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the
saints.
Ps 78:8 And might not be as their
fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation
that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not
steadfast with God. 37 For their heart was not right with
him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
Dan 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant
shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know
their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Temptations
Mt 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of
the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was
afterward an hungered. 3 And when the tempter came to
him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these
stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the
devil takes him up into the holy city, and sets him on a
pinnacle of the temple, 6 And said to him, If you be the
Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall
give his angels charge concerning you: and in their hands
they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot
against a stone. 7 Jesus said to him, It is written
again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. 8 Again,
the devil takes him up into an exceeding high mountain, and
shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of
them; 9 And said to him, All these things will I give
you, if you will fall down and worship me. 10 Then said
Jesus to him, Get you hence, Satan: for it is written, You
shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you
serve. 11 Then the devil leaves him, and, behold, angels
came and ministered to him.
6:13 And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
26:40 And he comes to the disciples, and finds them
asleep, and said to Peter, What, could you not watch with me
one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that you enter not into
temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak.
Lu 4:13 And when the devil had ended all
the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear,
receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for
a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
22:28 You are they which have continued with me in my
temptations.
22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon,
behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you
as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith
fail not: and when you are converted, strengthen your
brothers.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is
the law sin? God forbid. No, I had not known sin, but by the
law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, You
shall not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the
commandment, worked in me all manner of concupiscence. For
without the law sin was dead.
1 Cor 7:5
Defraud you not one the other, except it be with consent for
a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer;
and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your
incontinency. 6 But I speak this by permission, and not
of commandment.
10:12 Why let him that thinks he
stands take heed lest he fall. 13 There has no temptation
taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful,
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are
able; but will with the temptation also make a way to
escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Gal
4:13 You know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached
the gospel to you at the first. 14 And my temptation
which was in my flesh you despised not, nor rejected; but
received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall
not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts
against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and
these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot
do the things that you would.
6:1 Brothers, if a man
be overtaken in a fault, you which are spiritual, restore
such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering yourself,
lest you also be tempted.
1 Th 3:5 For this
cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your
faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and
our labor be in vain.
1 Tim 6:9 But they that
will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many
foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction
and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of
all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred
from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.
Heb 2:17 Why in all things it
behooved him to be made like to his brothers, that he might
be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining
to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is
able to succor them that are tempted.
3:7 Why (as the
Holy Ghost said, To day if you will hear his voice, 8
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of
temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted
me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
4:15 For
we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the
feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted
like as we are, yet without sin.
Jas 1:2 My

righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
9 The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of
temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of
judgment to be punished:
Gen 3:1 Now the
serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which
the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, Yes, has
God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit
of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the
tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You
shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you
die. 4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not
surely die: 5 For God does know that in the day you eat
thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as
gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw
that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to
the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she
took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her
husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them
both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and
they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
4:6 And the LORD said to Cain, Why are you wroth? and
why is your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, shall
you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the
door. And to you shall be his desire, and you shall rule
over him.
1 Ch 21:1 And Satan stood up against
Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. 2 And David
said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number
Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of
them to me, that I may know it.
Worries and fears
Mt 5:4 Blessed are they that
mourn: for they shall be comforted.
6:25 Therefore I
say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall
eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what
you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the
body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for
they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better
than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one
cubit to his stature? 28 And why take you thought for
raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;
they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say to
you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like
one of these. 30 Why, if God so clothe the grass of the
field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven,
shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for
your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these
things. 33 But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his
righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow
shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to
the day is the evil thereof.
10:26 Fear them not
therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be
revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I
tell you in darkness, that speak you in light: and what you
hear in the ear, that preach you on the housetops. 28 And
fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill
the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground
without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head
are all numbered. 31 Fear you not therefore, you are of
more value than many sparrows.
13:22 He also that
received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word;
and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
26:37 And
he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and
began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then said he to
them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even to death: tarry
you here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little
farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my
Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.

your consolation. 25 Woe to you that are full! for you

21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun,

21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your
hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and
cares of this life, and so that day come on you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on
the face of the whole earth.
Joh 14:1 Let not
your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in
me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were
not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for
you.
14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to
you: not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your
heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Truly, truly, I say to you, That you shall weep and lament,
but the world shall rejoice: and you shall be sorrowful, but
your sorrow shall be turned into joy. 21 A woman when she
is in travail has sorrow, because her hour is come: but as
soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more
the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 And you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you
again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man
takes from you.
16:33 These things I have spoken to
you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall
have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the
world.
Acts 27:23 For there stood by me this
night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24
Saying, Fear not, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar:
and, see, God has given you all them that sail with you.
25 Why, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it

wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers,
my kinsmen according to the flesh:

And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much

7:32 But I would have you without
carefulness. He that is unmarried cares for the things that
belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

not that you were made sorry, but that you sorrowed to
repentance: for you were made sorry after a godly manner,
that you might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For
godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be
repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death. 11
For behold this selfsame thing, that you sorrowed after a
godly sort, what carefulness it worked in you, yes, what
clearing of yourselves, yes, what indignation, yes, what
fear, yes, what vehement desire, yes, what zeal, yes, what
revenge! In all things you have approved yourselves to be
clear in this matter.
Php 2:25 Yet I supposed
it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and
companion in labor, and fellow soldier, but your messenger,
and he that ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed
after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that you
had heard that he had been sick. 27 For indeed he was
sick near to death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him
only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow on sorrow.
28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when you
see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less
sorrowful.
4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God,
which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.
1 Th 4:13 But I
would not have you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning them
which are asleep, that you sorrow not, even as others which
have no hope.
Heb 12:10 For they truly for a
few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for
our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but
grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable
fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.
13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and
be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I

boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what
man shall do to me.

fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made

1 Sam 1:9 So Hannah rose up
after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk.
Now Eli the priest sat on a seat by a post of the temple of
the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and
prayed to the LORD, and wept sore. 13 Now Hannah, she
spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was
not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. 14
And Eli said to her, How long will you be drunken? put away
your wine from you. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No,
my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk
neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul
before the LORD. 16 Count not your handmaid for a
daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint
and grief have I spoken till now. 17 Then Eli answered
and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant you your
petition that you have asked of him. 18 And she said, Let
your handmaid find grace in your sight. So the woman went
her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
Neh 8:9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and
Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the
people, said to all the people, This day is holy to the LORD
your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when
they heard the words of the law. 10 Then he said to them,
Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send
portions to them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day
is holy to our LORD: neither be you sorry; for the joy of
the LORD is your strength.
Job 7:11 Therefore
I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of
my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Ps 13:1 How long will you forget me, O LORD? for
ever? how long will you hide your face from me? 2 How
long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my
heart daily? how long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
30:11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing:
you have put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to you, and not
be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you for
ever.
31:9 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in
trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, yes, my soul and my

with sighing: my strength fails because of my iniquity, and

Persecution
Mt 5:10 Blessed are they which
are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you, when men shall
revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of
evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be
exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so
persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that
curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them
which spitefully use you, and persecute you;

But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the
councils, and they will whip you in their synagogues; 18
And you shall be brought before governors and kings for my
sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19
But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what
you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour
what you shall speak. 20 For it is not you that speak,
but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you.
10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death,

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master,
and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master
of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them

is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid,
that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness,
that speak you in light: and what you hear in the ear, that
preach you on the housetops. 28 And fear not them which
kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell.
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on
earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am
come to set a man at variance against his father, and the
daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against
her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of
his own household.
12:14 Then the Pharisees went out,
and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from there:
and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places,
the same is he that hears the word, and immediately with joy
receives it; 21 Yet has he not root in himself, but
endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution
rises because of the word, by and by he is offended.
21:33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder,
which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and dig
a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to
farmers, and went into a far country: 34 And when the
time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the
farmers, that they might receive the fruits of it. 35 And
the farmers took his servants, and beat one, and killed
another, and stoned another. 36 Again, he sent other
servants more than the first: and they did to them likewise.
37 But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They
will reverence my son. 38 But when the farmers saw the
son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let
us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. 39 And
they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew
him.
22:1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again
by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like to
a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And
sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the
wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth
other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold,
I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatted calves are
killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage. 5
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his
farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took
his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
23:29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
because you build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the
sepulchers of the righteous, 30 And say, If we had been
in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers
with them in the blood of the prophets. 31 Why you be
witnesses to yourselves, that you are the children of them
which killed the prophets. 32 Fill you up then the
measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you generation
of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell? 34
Why, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and
scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and
some of them shall you whip in your synagogues, and
persecute them from city to city: 35 That on you may come
all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of
righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias,
whom you slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly
I say to you, All these things shall come on this
generation.
24:8 All these are the beginning of
sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be
afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all
nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be
offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one
another.
Mr 10:28 Then Peter began to say to
him, See, we have left all, and have followed you. 29 And
Jesus answered and said, Truly I say to you, There is no man
that has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or
mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the
gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundred times now in
this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers,
and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world
to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be
last; and the last first.
Lu 6:22 Blessed are
you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate
you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out
your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. 23 Rejoice
you in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward
is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers
to the prophets.
12:49 I am come to send fire on the
earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? 50 But
I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I
straitened till it be accomplished! 51 Suppose you that I
am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, No; but rather
division: 52 For from now on there shall be five in one
house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son

their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to
the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings

hearts, not to meditate before what you shall answer: 15
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your
adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. 16
And you shall be betrayed both by parents, and brothers, and
kinfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to
be put to death. 17 And you shall be hated of all men for
my name’s sake. 18 But there shall not an hair of your
head perish. 19 In your patience possess you your souls.
Joh 15:18 If the world hate you, you know that it
hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the
world, the world would love his own: but because you are not
of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that
I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If
they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if
they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21
But all these things will they do to you for my name’s sake,
because they know not him that sent me.
16:1 These
things have I spoken to you, that you should not be
offended. 2 They shall put you out of the synagogues:
yes, the time comes, that whoever kills you will think that
he does God service. 3 And these things will they do to
you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4
But these things have I told you, that when the time shall
come, you may remember that I told you of them. And these
things I said not to you at the beginning, because I was

17:13 And now come I to you; and these
things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy

and the world has hated them, because they are not of the

you should take them out of the world, but that you should
keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world,

21:18 Truly, truly, I
say to you, When you were young, you gird yourself, and
walked where you would: but when you shall be old, you shall
stretch forth your hands, and another shall gird you, and
carry you where you would not. 19 This spoke he,
signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he

Acts

that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
7:51 You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and
ears, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers

Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light

Jesus whom you persecute: it is hard for you to kick against
the pricks.
12:1 Now about that time Herod the king
stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2
And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3
And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further
to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened
bread.) 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in
prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep
him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the
people.
13:50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and
honorable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised
persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out
of their coasts. 51 But they shook off the dust of their
feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the
disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
14:4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part
held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. 5 And
when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and
also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them spitefully,
and to stone them, 6 They were ware of it, and fled to
Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the region that
lies round about:
21:13 Then Paul answered, What mean
you to weep and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be
bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the
Lord Jesus. 14 And when he would not be persuaded, we
ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
22:4
And I persecuted this way to the death, binding and
delivering into prisons both men and women. 5 As also the
high priest does bear me witness, and all the estate of the
elders: from whom also I received letters to the brothers,
and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound
to Jerusalem, for to be punished.
26:9 I truly
thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary
to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 Which thing I also
did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in
prison, having received authority from the chief priests;
and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against
them. 11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and
compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad
against them, I persecuted them even to strange cities.
26:14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard
a voice speaking to me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue,
Saul, Saul, why persecute you me? it is hard for you to kick
against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who are you, Lord? And
he said, I am Jesus whom you persecute.

8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or
nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For
your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted
as sheep for the slaughter. 37 No, in all these things we
are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor
angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any
other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love
of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
1 Cor 4:9 For I think that God has set forth us
the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are
made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men.
10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in
Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable,
but we are despised. 11 Even to this present hour we both
hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and
have no certain dwelling place; 12 And labor, working
with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being
persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we entreat:
we are made as the filth of the world, and are the
offscouring of all things to this day. 14 I write not
these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn
you.
15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am
not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the
church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am:
and his grace which was bestowed on me was not in vain; but
I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the
grace of God which was with me.
2 Cor 4:7 But
we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 8
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are
perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not
forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
11:22 Are
they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are

things that are without, that which comes on me daily, the
care of all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not
weak? who is offended, and I burn not? 30 If I must needs
glory, I will glory of the things which concern my
infirmities.
12:9 And he said to me, My grace is
sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in
weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest on me. 10
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in
necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s
sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Gal
1:13 For you have heard of my conversation in time past in
the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the
church of God, and wasted it: 14 And profited in the
Jews’ religion above many my equals in my own nation, being
more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh
persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is
now.
6:12 As many as desire to make a fair show in
the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest
they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation
to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled

heaven with his mighty angels,

pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course,
and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2 And that we
may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all

1 Tim 1:12 And I thank
Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for that he
counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who
was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious:
but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in
unbelief.
2 Tim 3:10 But you have fully known
my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long-suffering,
charity, patience, 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which
came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what
persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord
delivered me. 12 Yes, and all that will live godly in
Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which,
after you were illuminated, you endured a great fight of
afflictions; 33 Partly, whilst you were made a spectacle
both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst you
became companions of them that were so used. 34 For you
had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the
spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have
in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35 Cast not
away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense
of reward. 36 For you have need of patience, that, after
you have done the will of God, you might receive the
promise.
11:35 Women received their dead raised to
life again: and others were tortured, not accepting
deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings,
yes, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were
stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain

1 Pe 4:14 If you be reproached for the name of
Christ, happy are you; for the spirit of glory and of God
rests on you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on
your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer
as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a
busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer
as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify
God on this behalf. 19 Why let them that suffer according
to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him
in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.

Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And
why slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those
things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast
some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and you
shall have tribulation ten days: be you faithful to death,
and I will give you a crown of life.

of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the

out his vial on the rivers and fountains of waters; and they

You are righteous, O Lord, which are, and were, and shall

blood to drink; for they are worthy.
17:5 And on her
forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE
MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 And I
saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with
the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I

20:4 And I saw
thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to

LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by

been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the

even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it

2 Ch 36:15 And the LORD God of their
fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes,
and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on

God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until
the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there
was no remedy.
Neh 4:1 But it came to pass,
that when Sanballat heard that we built the wall, he was
wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews. 2
And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria,
and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify
themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a
day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the
rubbish which are burned? 3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was
by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go
up, he shall even break down their stone wall. 4 Hear, O
our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach on
their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of
captivity: 5 And cover not their iniquity, and let not
their sin be blotted out from before you: for they have
provoked you to anger before the builders. 6 So built we
the wall; and all the wall was joined together to the half
thereof: for the people had a mind to work. 7 But it came
to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians,
and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls
of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be
stopped, then they were very wroth, 8 And conspired all
of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and
to hinder it.
Ps 7:1 O LORD my God, in you do
I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and
deliver me: 2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending
it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
31:18
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous
things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
37:12 The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes on
him with his teeth. 13 The LORD shall laugh at him: for
he sees that his day is coming.

wrongfully are multiplied. 20 They also that render evil
for good are my adversaries; because I follow the thing that
good is.

20:7 O LORD, you have deceived me, and I
was deceived; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I

word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision,
daily. 9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor
speak any more in his name. But his word was in my heart as
a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay. 10 For I heard the
defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and
we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting,
saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall
prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one:
therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not
prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not
prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be
forgotten.
