HUMILITY
Mt 11:29 Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.
18:2 And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the middle of
them,
3 And said, Truly I say to you, Except you be converted, and become as
little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is
greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
20:25 But Jesus called them to him, and said, You know that the princes of
the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise
authority on them.
26 But it shall not be so among you: but whoever will be great among you,
let him be your minister;
27 And whoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and
to give his life a ransom for many.
23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble
himself shall be exalted.
Lu 14:7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when
he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them.
8 When you are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest
room; lest a more honorable man than you be bidden of him;
9 And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place; and
you begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 But when you are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he
that bade you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you
have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with you.
11 For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself
shall be exalted.
18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his
eyes to heaven, but smote on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a
sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the
other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that
humbles himself shall be exalted.
Joh 5:41 I receive not honor from men.
42 But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.
13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was
set down again, he said to them, Know you what I have done to you?
13 You call me Master and Lord: and you say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you also ought to
wash one another’s feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Acts 20:17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders
of the church.
18 And when they were come to him, he said to them, You know, from the first
day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all
seasons,
19 Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and
temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love;
in honor preferring one another;
1 Cor 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be
called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
2 Cor 10:1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and
gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am
bold toward you:
2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that
confidence, with which I think to be bold against some, which think of us as
if we walked according to the flesh.
Eph 3:8 To me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this
grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches
of Christ;
4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy
of the vocation with which you are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one
another in love;
5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Php 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took on him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became
obedient to death, even the death of the cross.
Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary
humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he has
not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands
having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increases with the
increase of God.
2:20 Why if you be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as
though living in the world, are you subject to ordinances,
21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and
doctrines of men?
23 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship, and humility,
and neglecting of the body: not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh.
3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of
mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering;
1 Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Jas 4:6 But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
1 Pe 3:8 Finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brothers, be pitiful, be courteous:
5:5 Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you
be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the
proud, and gives grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time:
Ex 10:3 And Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh, and said to him, Thus
said the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long will you refuse to humble
yourself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.
Num 12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the
Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2 And they said, Has the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? has he not spoken
also by us? And the LORD heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were on the face
of the earth.)
De 8:2 And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God led
you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to
know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or no.
3 And he humbled you, and suffered you to hunger, and fed you with manna,
which you knew not, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you
know that man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds
out of the mouth of the LORD does man live.
2 Sam 22:28 And the afflicted people you will save: but your eyes are
on the haughty, that you may bring them down.
1 Ki 21:29 See you how Ahab humbles himself before me? because he
humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his
son’s days will I bring the evil on his house.
2 Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land.
12:6 Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and
they said, The LORD is righteous.
7 And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD
came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not
destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not
be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
32:25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done to him;
for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah
and Jerusalem.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both
he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not
on them in the days of Hezekiah.
33:11 Why the LORD brought on them the captains of the host of the king of
Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters,
and carried him to Babylon.
12 And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled
himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
Job 22:29 When men are cast down, then you shall say, There is
lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
Ps 10:17 LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble: you will
prepare their heart, you will cause your ear to hear:
18:27 For you will save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks.
25:9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in
the abundance of peace.
119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept your word.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn your
statutes.
138:6 Though the LORD be high, yet has he respect to the lowly: but the
proud he knows afar off.
149:4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek
with salvation.
Pr 3:34 Surely he scorns the scorners: but he gives grace to the
lowly.
11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is
humility.
16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the
spoil with the proud.
18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is
humility.
22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.
29:23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble
in spirit.
Isa 57:15 For thus said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity,
whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that
is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and
to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
66:2 For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been,
said the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of
a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.
Dan 4:37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of
heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that
walk in pride he is able to abase.
Mic 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the
LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly
with your God?
Zep 2:3 Seek you the LORD, all you meek of the earth, which have
worked his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be you shall
be hid in the day of the LORD’s anger.
Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of
Jerusalem: behold, your King comes to you: he is just, and having salvation;
lowly, and riding on an ass, and on a colt the foal of an ass.
