ANSWERING THE CALL
Mt 22:1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king, which made a marriage for
his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding:
and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden,
Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatted calves are killed,
and all things are ready: come to the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another
to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew
them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his
armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then said he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were
bidden were not worthy.
9 Go you therefore into the highways, and as many as you shall find, bid to
the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all
as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with
guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had
not on a wedding garment:
12 And he said to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a wedding
garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him
away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing
of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
Lu 5:27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi,
sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said to him, Follow me.
28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great
company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.
30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying,
Why do you eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 And Jesus answering said to them, They that are whole need not a
physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
14:15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he
said to him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
16 Then said he to him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come;
for all things are now ready.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him,
I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray you
have me excused.
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them:
I pray you have me excused.
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master
of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the
streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the maimed,
and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, and yet
there is room.
23 And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges,
and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say to you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of
my supper.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you
in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive
the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar
off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save
yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day
there were added to them about three thousand souls.
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,
and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear
the word of God.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and
spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and
blaspheming.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the
word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from
you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, see, we turn to the
Gentiles.
24:24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which
was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come,
Felix trembled, and answered, Go your way for this time; when I have a
convenient season, I will call for you.
Rom 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated
to the gospel of God,
1:6 Among whom are you also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you
and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the
image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he
called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also
glorified.
9:10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by
our father Isaac;
11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or
evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of
works, but of him that calls;)
12 It was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger.
9:24 Even us, whom he has called, not of the Jews only, but also of the
Gentiles?
25 As he said also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my
people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as
touching the election, they are beloved for the father’s sakes.
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
1 Cor 1:1 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of
God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in
Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call on the
name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:
1:8 Who shall also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the
day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God is faithful, by whom you were called to the fellowship of his Son
Jesus Christ our Lord.
1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to
the Greeks foolishness;
24 But to them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of
God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God
is stronger than men.
26 For you see your calling, brothers, how that not many wise men after the
flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which
are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God
chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are:
7:17 But as God has distributed to every man, as the Lord has called every
one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is
any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping
of the commandments of God.
20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
21 Are you called being a servant? care not for it: but if you may be made
free, use it rather.
22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman:
likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
23 You are bought with a price; be not you the servants of men.
24 Brothers, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
2 Cor 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech
you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be you reconciled to God.
6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that you receive
not the grace of God in vain.
2 (For he said, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the day of
salvation have I succored you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now
is the day of salvation.)
Gal 1:6 I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into
the grace of Christ to another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would
pervert the gospel of Christ.
1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and
called me by his grace,
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen;
immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but
I went into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.
5:13 For, brothers, you have been called to liberty; only use not liberty
for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may
give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what
is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his
inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe,
according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him
at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Php 3:13 Brothers, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one
thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to
those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in
Christ Jesus.
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you
are called in one body; and be you thankful.
1 Th 2:12 That you would walk worthy of God, who has called you to his
kingdom and glory.
13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you
received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the
word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works
also in you that believe.
4:7 For God has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.
2 Th 2:10 And with all delusion of unrighteousness in them that perish;
because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should
believe a lie:
2:13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brothers beloved
of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation
through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
whereunto you are also called, and have professed a good profession before
many witnesses.
2 Tim 1:9 Who has saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not
according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which
was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Heb 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which
we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression
and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first
began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard
him;
4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with
divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
3:7 Why (as the Holy Ghost said, To day if you will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in
the wilderness:
12:25 See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who
refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn
away from him that speaks from heaven:
Jas 4:13 Go to now, you that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a
city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life?
It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
15 For that you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this,
or that.
16 But now you rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
1 Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who
has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:
which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
5:10 But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory by
Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you perfect,
establish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Pe 1:10 Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and
election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the
everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them
that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and
called:
Rev 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome
them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him
are called, and chosen, and faithful.
19:9 And he said to me, Write, Blessed are they which are called to the
marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said to me, These are the true sayings
of God.
Job 21:13 They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the
grave.
14 Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the
knowledge of your ways.
15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we
have, if we pray to him?
Pr 1:20 Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets:
21 She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates:
in the city she utters her words, saying,
22 How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scorners
delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will
make known my words to you.
24 Because I have called, and you refused; I have stretched out my hand, and
no man regarded;
25 But you have set at nothing all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
27:1 Boast not yourself of to morrow; for you know not what a day may bring
forth.
Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you indeed, but
understand not; and see you indeed, but perceive not.
10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut
their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and
understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
29:6 You shall be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with
earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of
devouring fire.
45:22 Look to me, and be you saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God,
and there is none else.
55:3 Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I
will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and
commander to the people.
5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you know not, and nations that knew
not you shall run to you because of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One
of Israel; for he has glorified you.
6 Seek you the LORD while he may be found, call you on him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and
let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God,
for he will abundantly pardon.
66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears on them;
because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: but
they did evil before my eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.
Jer 2:27 Saying to a stock, You are my father; and to a stone, You have
brought me forth: for they have turned their back to me, and not their face:
but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
22:21 I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, I will not hear. This
has been your manner from your youth, that you obeyed not my voice.
Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? said the
Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies, said the Lord GOD:
why turn yourselves, and live you.
