HIGH PRIEST
Mt 26:3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes,
and the elders of the people, to the palace of the high priest, who was
called Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.
Lu 3:2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God
came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
Joh 11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that
same year, said to them, You know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the
people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he
prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in
one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
18:12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and
bound him,
13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas,
which was the high priest that same year.
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was
expedient that one man should die for the people.
Acts 4:5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and
elders, and scribes,
6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as
many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at
Jerusalem.
7 And when they had set them in the middle, they asked, By what power, or by
what name, have you done this?
23:2 And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite
him on the mouth.
3 Then said Paul to him, God shall smite you, you white washed wall: for sit
you to judge me after the law, and command me to be smitten contrary to the
law?
4 And they that stood by said, Revile you God’s high priest?
5 Then said Paul, I knew not, brothers, that he was the high priest: for it
is written, You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.
Heb 2:17 Why in all things it behooved him to be made like to his
brothers, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things
pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to succor
them that are tempted.
3:1 Why, holy brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the
Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in
all his house.
4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling
of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
without sin.
5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things
pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the
way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to
offer for sins.
4 And no man takes this honor to himself, but he that is called of God, as
was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he
that said to him, You are my Son, to day have I begotten you.
6 As he said also in another place, You are a priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec.
5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he
suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation to all
them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast,
and which enters into that within the veil;
20 Where the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest
for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who
met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by
interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem,
which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning
of days, nor end of life; but made like to the Son of God; stays a priest
continually.
4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham
gave the tenth of the spoils.
7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it
the people received the law,) what further need was there that another
priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after
the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change
also of the law.
13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of
which no man gave attendance at the altar.
14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses
spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of
Melchisedec there rises another priest,
16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the
power of an endless life.
17 For he testifies, You are a priest for ever after the order of
Melchisedec.
18 For there is truly a cancellation of the commandment going before for the
weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
7:23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to
continue by reason of death:
24 But this man, because he continues ever, has an unchangeable priesthood.
25 Why he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come to God by him,
seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.
7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first
for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he
offered up himself.
28 For the law makes men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of
the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated for
ever more.
8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an
high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in
the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord
pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: why it is
of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are
priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve to the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was
admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, said
he, that you make all things according to the pattern showed to you in the
mount.
9:6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into
the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not
without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the
people:
9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a
greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say,
not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered
in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters
into the holy place every year with blood of others;
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world:
but now once in the end of the world has he appeared to put away sin by the
sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and to them that
look for him shall he appear the second time without sin to salvation.
13:11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the
sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Why Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood,
suffered without the gate.
Gen 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine:
and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God,
possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which has delivered your enemies into
your hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Ex 28:1 And take you to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with him,
from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to me in the
priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s
sons.
12 And you shall put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod for stones
of memorial to the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names
before the LORD on his two shoulders for a memorial.
29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the
breastplate of judgment on his heart, when he goes in to the holy place, for
a memorial before the LORD continually.
30 And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim;
and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before the LORD: and
Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before
the LORD continually.
40:12 And you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle
of the congregation, and wash them with water.
13 And you shall put on Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and
sanctify him; that he may minister to me in the priest’s office.
14 And you shall bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:
15 And you shall anoint them, as you did anoint their father, that they may
minister to me in the priest’s office: for their anointing shall surely be
an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.
Ps 110:1 The LORD said to my Lord, Sit you at my right hand, until I
make your enemies your footstool.
2 The LORD shall send the rod of your strength out of Zion: rule you in the
middle of your enemies.
4 The LORD has sworn, and will not repent, You are a priest for ever after
the order of Melchizedek.
