COVENANT, NEW AND OLD TESTAMENT
Mt 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it,
and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my
body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink
you all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the
remission of sins.
Lu 1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he has visited and
redeemed his people,
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy
covenant;
73 The oath which he swore to our father Abraham,
Acts 3:25 You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant
which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in your seed shall
all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
26 To you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you,
in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat
Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob
begat the twelve patriarchs.
Rom 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my
brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the
covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the
promises;
5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came,
who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come
out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 For this is my covenant to them, when I shall take away their sins.
1 Cor 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do you, as
oft as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you do show the
Lord’s death till he come.
2 Cor 3:6 Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament;
not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit
gives life.
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remains the same veil
not taken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away
in Christ.
15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, the veil is on their heart.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two
covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which engenders to bondage, which
is Agar.
25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem which
now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Eph 2:11 Why remember, that you being in time past Gentiles in the
flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the
Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the
commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having
no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who sometimes were far off are made near by
the blood of Christ.
Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity
a change also of the law.
18 For there is truly a cancellation of the commandment going before for the
weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
7:22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
8:6 But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he
is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better
promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have
been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he said, Behold, the days come, said the
Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the
house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day
when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because
they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, said the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after
those days, said the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write
them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a
people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his
brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the
greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their
iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he said, A new covenant, he has made the first old. Now that
which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away.
9:1 Then truly the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and
a worldly sanctuary.
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round
about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod
that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works
to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means
of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first
testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal
inheritance.
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of
the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no
strength at all while the testator lives.
18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to
the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet
wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God has enjoined to you.
10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had
said before,
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, said
the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I
write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy,
who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the
covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done
despite to the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense,
said the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of
sprinkling, that speaks better things that that of Abel.
13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,
that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting
covenant,
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was
seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightning, and
voices, and thunder, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Gen 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters on the
earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under
heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18 But with you will I establish my covenant; and you shall come into the
ark, you, and your sons, and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
9:8 And God spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after
you;
10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the
cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of
the ark, to every beast of the earth.
11 And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut
off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a
flood to destroy the earth.
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me
and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual
generations:
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant
between me and the earth.
14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the
bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every
living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to
destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look on it, that I may
remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of
all flesh that is on the earth.
17 And God said to Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have
established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.
15:17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark,
behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those
pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed
have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the
river Euphrates:
17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to
Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be you
perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you
exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of
many nations.
5 Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be
Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made you.
6 And I will make you exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of you,
and kings shall come out of you.
7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after
you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you,
and to your seed after you.
8 And I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land wherein you
are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I
will be their God.
9 And God said to Abraham, You shall keep my covenant therefore, you, and
your seed after you in their generations.
10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your
seed after you; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a
token of the covenant between me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man
child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with
money of any stranger, which is not of your seed.
13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money,
must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an
everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not
circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my
covenant.
17:18 And Abraham said to God, O that Ishmael might live before you!
19 And God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed; and you shall
call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an
everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: Behold, I have blessed him, and
will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes
shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear to
you at this set time in the next year.
21:27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both
of them made a covenant.
28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which you
have set by themselves?
30 And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shall you take of my hand, that
they may be a witness to me, that I have dig this well.
31 Why he called that place Beersheba; because there they swore both of them.
32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and
Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of
the Philistines.
26:26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends,
and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
27 And Isaac said to them, Why come you to me, seeing you hate me, and have
sent me away from you?
28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with you: and we said,
Let there be now an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us
make a covenant with you;
29 That you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have
done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace: you are now
the blessed of the LORD.
30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and swore one to another: and
Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
31:43 And Laban answered and said to Jacob, These daughters are my daughters,
and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all
that you see is mine: and what can I do this day to these my daughters, or
to their children which they have born?
44 Now therefore come you, let us make a covenant, I and you; and let it be
for a witness between me and you.
45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
Ex 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant
with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
19:5 Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant,
then you shall be a peculiar treasure to me above all people: for all the
earth is mine:
6 And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are
the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.
23:32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
24:6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the
blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the
people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be
obedient.
8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold
the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all
these words.
34:12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants
of the land where you go, lest it be for a snare in the middle of you:
34:27 And the LORD said to Moses, Write you these words: for after the tenor
of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.
28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did
neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote on the tables the words of
the covenant, the ten commandments.
Lev 26:44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their
enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy
them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their
God.
Num 10:33 And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days’
journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the
three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them.
De 4:12 And the LORD spoke to you out of the middle of the fire: you
heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only you heard a voice.
13 And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform,
even ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.
7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God,
which keeps covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his
commandments to a thousand generations;
8:17 And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten
me this wealth.
18 But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives you
power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to
your fathers, as it is this day.
9:9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even
the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed in
the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink
water:
10 And the LORD delivered to me two tables of stone written with the finger
of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD
spoke with you in the mount out of the middle of the fire in the day of the
assembly.
11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the
LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
Judges 2:1 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim,
and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land
which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant
with you.
2 And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; you shall
throw down their altars: but you have not obeyed my voice: why have you done
this?
1 Sam 18:3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved
him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him, and gave it to
David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his
girdle.
2 Sam 3:12 And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying,
Whose is the land? saying also, Make your league with me, and, behold, my
hand shall be with you, to bring about all Israel to you.
13 And he said, Well; I will make a league with you: but one thing I require
of you, that is, You shall not see my face, except you first bring Michal
Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.
1 Ki 8:21 And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the
covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them
out of the land of Egypt.
15:18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the
treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house,
and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to
Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that
dwelled at Damascus, saying,
19 There is a league between me and you, and between my father and your
father: behold, I have sent to you a present of silver and gold; come and
break your league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
2 Ki 23:1 And the king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders
of Judah and of Jerusalem.
2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah
and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the
prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their
ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house
of the LORD.
3 And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to
walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and
his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words
of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to
the covenant.
1 Ch 16:15 Be you mindful always of his covenant; the word which he
commanded to a thousand generations;
16 Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath to
Isaac;
17 And has confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an
everlasting covenant,
2 Ch 13:4 And Abijah stood up on mount Zemaraim, which is in mount
Ephraim, and said, Hear me, you Jeroboam, and all Israel;
5 Ought you not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over
Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
15:10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month,
in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
11 And they offered to the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had
brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers
with all their heart and with all their soul;
34:29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and
Jerusalem.
30 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah,
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all
the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the
book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to
walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and
his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the
words of the covenant which are written in this book.
32 And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to
it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God,
the God of their fathers.
Ps 89:3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn to David
my servant,
4 Your seed will I establish for ever, and build up your throne to all
generations. Selah.
105:8 He has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded
to a thousand generations.
9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an
everlasting covenant:
111:9 He sent redemption to his people: he has commanded his covenant for
ever: holy and reverend is his name.
Isa 24:5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof;
because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the
everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore has the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein
are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men
left.
28:18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement
with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing whip shall pass through,
then you shall be trodden down by it.
30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, said the LORD, that take counsel, but
not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they
may add sin to sin:
42:6 I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand,
and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of
the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and
them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
49:8 Thus said the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a
day of salvation have I helped you: and I will preserve you, and give you
for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit
the desolate heritages;
54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my
kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace
be removed, said the LORD that has mercy on you.
55:3 Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I
will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
59:20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and to them that turn from
transgression in Jacob, said the LORD.
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, said the LORD; My spirit that
is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out
of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of
your seed’s seed, said the LORD, from now on and for ever.
Jer 11:1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD saying,
2 Hear you the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to
the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3 And say you to them, Thus said the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man
that obeys not the words of this covenant,
4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of
the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them,
according to all which I command you: so shall you be my people, and I will
be your God:
5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn to your fathers, to give
them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I,
and said, So be it, O LORD.
6 Then the LORD said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah,
and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear you the words of this covenant,
and do them.
7 For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them
up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting,
saying, Obey my voice.
8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the
imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring on them all the
words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
9 And the LORD said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and
among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which
refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the
house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made
with their fathers.
31:31 Behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day
that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which
my covenant they broke, although I was an husband to them, said the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, said the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my
people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his
brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least
of them to the greatest of them, said the LORD: for I will forgive their
iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
33:19 And the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
20 Thus said the LORD; If you can break my covenant of the day, and my
covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their
season;
21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should
not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my
ministers.
22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea
measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites
that minister to me.
23 Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
24 Consider you not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families
which the LORD has chosen, he has even cast them off? thus they have
despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
25 Thus said the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I
have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;
26 Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob and David my servant, so that I
will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac,
and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on
them.
50:4 In those days, and in that time, said the LORD, the children of Israel
shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they
shall go, and seek the LORD their God.
5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come,
and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not
be forgotten.
Eze 16:60 Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the
days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant.
61 Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive
your sisters, your elder and your younger: and I will give them to you for
daughters, but not by your covenant.
62 And I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall know that I am
the LORD:
63 That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any
more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you
have done, said the Lord GOD.
37:25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant,
wherein your fathers have dwelled; and they shall dwell therein, even they,
and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant
David shall be their prince for ever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an
everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them,
and will set my sanctuary in the middle of them for ever more.
