JESUS, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Mt 4:12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he
departed into Galilee;
13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelled in Capernaum, which is on the
sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea,
beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat
in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom
of heaven is at hand.
Lu 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was
Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of
Israel: and the Holy Ghost was on him.
26 And it was revealed to him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see
death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought
in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now let you your servant depart in peace, according to your word:
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 Which you have prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of
him.
Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men
through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew
him not.
8:12 Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he
that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of
life.
13 The Pharisees therefore said to him, You bore record of yourself; your
record is not true.
14 Jesus answered and said to them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my
record is true: for I know from where I came, and where I go; but you cannot
tell from where I come, and where I go.
9:3 Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that
the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night
comes, when no man can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ
stays for ever: and how say you, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is
this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk
while you have the light, lest darkness come on you: for he that walks in
darkness knows not where he goes.
36 While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children
of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from
them.
12:44 Jesus cried and said, He that believes on me, believes not on me, but
on him that sent me.
45 And he that sees me sees him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whoever believes on me should not
abide in darkness.
Acts 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was
necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but
seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting
life, see, we turn to the Gentiles.
47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set you to be a light of
the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word
of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
Isa 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul
delights; I have put my spirit on him: he shall bring forth judgment to the
Gentiles.
2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the
street.
3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not
quench: he shall bring forth judgment to truth.
4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the
earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
5 Thus said God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them
out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; he that
gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and
will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the
Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and
them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that you should be my servant to raise
up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also
give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the
end of the earth.
7 Thus said the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom
man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers, Kings
shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is
faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose you.
8 Thus said the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a day
of salvation have I helped you: and I will preserve you, and give you for a
covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the
desolate heritages;
9 That you may say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness,
Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in
all high places.
