PASTORS, TEACHERS, ELDERS AND DEACONS
Mt 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then said he to his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the
laborers are few;
38 Pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth
laborers into his harvest.
24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler
over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.
47 Truly I say to you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the
sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are
not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf
catches them, and scatters the sheep.
13 The hireling flees, because he is an hireling, and cares not for the
sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
21:14 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples,
after that he was risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas,
love you me more than these? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love
you. He said to him, Feed my lambs.
16 He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me?
He said to him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. He said to him, Feed my
sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? Peter
was grieved because he said to him the third time, Love you me? And he said
to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus said to
him, Feed my sheep.
Acts 13:1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets
and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of
Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and
Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate
me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they
sent them away.
14:23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed
with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
20:17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the
church.
27 For I have not shunned to declare to you all the counsel of God.
28 Take heed therefore to yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which
the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he
has purchased with his own blood.
Rom 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not
the same office:
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of
another.
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us,
whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teaches, on
teaching;
8 Or he that exhorts, on exhortation: he that gives, let him do it with
simplicity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with
cheerfulness.
16:1 I commend to you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church
which is at Cenchrea:
1 Cor 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28 And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets,
thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
governments, diversities of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of
miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all
interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I to you a more
excellent way.
14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding,
that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an
unknown tongue.
Gal 6:6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate to him that teaches
in all good things.
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the
Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness
of Christ:
14 That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried
about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning
craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which
is the head, even Christ:
Php 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints
in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
1 Th 5:12 And we beseech you, brothers, to know them which labor among you,
and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at
peace among yourselves.
1 Tim 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the
truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he
desires a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober,
of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient,
not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that rules well his own house, having his children in subjection with
all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care
of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the
condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he
fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double-tongued, not given to
much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a
deacon, being found blameless.
11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all
things.
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and
their own houses well.
13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to
themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ
Jesus.
4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given you by prophecy,
with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor,
especially they who labor in the word and doctrine.
18 For the scripture said, You shall not muzzle the ox that treads out the
corn. And, The laborer is worthy of his reward.
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three
witnesses.
2 Tim 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus
Christ, who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to
light through the gospel:
11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the
Gentiles.
2: And the things that you have heard of me among many witnesses, the same
commit you to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle to all men,
apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure
will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who
are taken captive by him at his will.
Tit 1:5 For this cause left I you in Crete, that you should set in order the
things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed
you:
6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not
accused of riot or unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed,
not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy,
temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able
by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the disputers.
10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they
of the circumcision:
11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things
which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
Heb 5:12 For when for the time you ought to be teachers, you have need that
one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and
are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken to you the
word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they
watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it
with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Jas 3:1 My brothers, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the
greater condemnation.
5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and
let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him
up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
1 Pe 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and
a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that
shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof,
not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the
flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of
glory that fades not away.
Num 27:15 And Moses spoke to the LORD, saying,
16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the
congregation,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which
may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the
LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
18 And the LORD said to Moses, Take you Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom
is the spirit, and lay your hand on him;
1 Sam 12:23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the
LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right
way:
Ezr 8:15 And I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and
there stayed we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the
priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.
16 Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and
for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for
Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of
understanding.
Ps 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for your
testimonies are my meditation.
Isa 56:10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb
dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.
11 Yes, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are
shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one
for his gain, from his quarter.
Jer 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to my heart, which shall feed
you with knowledge and understanding.
10:21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD:
therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
17:15 Behold, they say to me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.
16 As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow you: neither
have I desired the woeful day; you know: that which came out of my lips was
right before you.
23:4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they
shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, said the
LORD.
Eze 34:1 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say to
them, Thus said the Lord GOD to the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of
Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
3 You eat the fat, and you clothe you with the wool, you kill them that are
fed: but you feed not the flock.
4 The diseased have you not strengthened, neither have you healed that which
was sick, neither have you bound up that which was broken, neither have you
brought again that which was driven away, neither have you sought that which
was lost; but with force and with cruelty have you ruled them.
5 And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: and they became
meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.
6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill: yes,
my flock was scattered on all the face of the earth, and none did search or
seek after them.
7 Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD;
8 As I live, said the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and
my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no
shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds
fed themselves, and fed not my flock;
Zec 11:15 And the LORD said to me, Take to you yet the instruments of a
foolish shepherd.
16 For, see, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit
those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that
is broken, nor feed that that stands still: but he shall eat the flesh of
the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.
17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaves the flock! the sword shall be on his
arm, and on his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right
eye shall be utterly darkened.
Mal 2:6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his
lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from
iniquity.
7 For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law
at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
