BEAUTIFICATION AND DRESSING
Mr 1:6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin
about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
Lu 7:24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak to
the people concerning John, What went you out into the wilderness for to see?
A reed shaken with the wind?
25 But what went you out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold,
they which are gorgeously appareled, and live delicately, are in kings’
courts.
26 But what went you out for to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much
more than a prophet.
1 Cor 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ;
and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his
head.
5 But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors
her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a
shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, for as much as he is the
image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the
angels.
11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman
without the man, in the Lord.
12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but
all things of God.
13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray to God uncovered?
14 Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it
is a shame to him?
15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is
given her for a covering.
16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither
the churches of God.
1 Tim 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands,
without wrath and doubting.
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
modesty and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly
array;
10 But (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.
1 Pe 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower
of grass. The grass wither, and the flower thereof falls away:
25 But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by
the gospel is preached to you.
3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,
and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the
sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in
God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:
Gen 24:47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter are you? And she said,
the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him: and I put the
earring on her face, and the bracelets on her hands.
Lev 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor
print any marks on you: I am the LORD.
De 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertains to a man, neither shall
a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination to the
LORD your God.
Est 2:1 After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased,
he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against
her.
2 Then said the king’s servants that ministered to him, Let there be fair
young virgins sought for the king:
3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom,
that they may gather together all the fair young virgins to Shushan the
palace, to the house of the women, to the custody of Hege the king’s
chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be
given them:
4 And let the maiden which pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. And
the thing pleased the king; and he did so.
5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai,
the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;
6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been
carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of
Babylon had carried away.
7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she
had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom
Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.
8 So it came to pass, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard,
and when many maidens were gathered together to Shushan the palace, to the
custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also to the king’s house, to the
custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he
speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged
to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the
king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids to the best place of the
house of the women.
10 Esther had not showed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had
charged her that she should not show it.
11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to
know how Esther did, and what should become of her.
12 Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after
that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for
so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months
with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odors, and with other things
for the purifying of the women;)
Pr 11:22 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is
without discretion.
15:13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart
the spirit is broken.
20:29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is
the grey head.
31:30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears the
LORD, she shall be praised.
Ec 9:7 Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a
merry heart; for God now accepts your works.
8 Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment.
Isa 3:16 Moreover the LORD said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as
they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the
daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling
ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the
moon,
19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the
tablets, and the earrings,
21 The rings, and nose jewels,
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and
the crisping pins,
23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the veils.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be
stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness;
and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of
beauty.
61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with
the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and
as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Jer 4:30 And when you are spoiled, what will you do? Though you clothe
yourself with crimson, though you deck you with ornaments of gold, though
you rend your face with painting, in vain shall you make yourself fair; your
lovers will despise you, they will seek your life.
Eze 28:17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have
corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I will cast you to the
ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you.
