MARRIAGE
1 Cor 7:29 But this I say, brothers, the time is short: it remains,
that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as
though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this
world passes away.
32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried cares for
the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 But he that is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he
may please his wife.
34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman
cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in
spirit: but she that is married cares for the things of the world, how she
may please her husband.
35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare on you,
but for that which is comely, and that you may attend on the Lord without
distraction.
11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and
the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all
churches of the saints.
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted to
them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also said the
law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home:
for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it to you only?
37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him
acknowledge that the things that I write to you are the commandments of the
Lord.
38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the
Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church: and he is the savior of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to
their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave
himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the
word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot,
or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without
blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his
wife loves himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it,
even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be
joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as
himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as it is fit
in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
1 Tim 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man,
but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the
transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in
faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
Tit 2:1 But speak you the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity,
in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not
false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands,
to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own
husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
1 Pe 3:1 Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands;
that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the
conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,
and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the
sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in
God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters you are, as
long as you do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, you husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving
honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of
the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
Gen 3:16 To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow
and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your
desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.
18:11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased
to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old
shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
21:12 And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because
of the lad, and because of your female slave; in all that Sarah has said to
you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac shall your seed be called.
24:67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah,
and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his
mother’s death.
Num 30:6 And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered
ought out of her lips, with which she bound her soul;
7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he
heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she bound her
soul shall stand.
8 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he
shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips,
with which she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive
her.
9 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, with which they
have bound their souls, shall stand against her.
10 And if she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a bond with
an oath;
11 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her
not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her
soul shall stand.
12 But if her husband has utterly made them void on the day he heard them;
then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning
the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband has made them void; and
the LORD shall forgive her.
13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may
establish it, or her husband may make it void.
Est 1:15 What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law,
because she has not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the
chamberlains?
16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen
has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all
the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
17 For this deed of the queen shall come abroad to all women, so that they
shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The
king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but
she came not.
18 Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day to all the
king’s princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there
arise too much contempt and wrath.
19 If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let
it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not
altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king
give her royal estate to another that is better than she.
20 And when the king’s decree which he shall make shall be published
throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to
their husbands honor, both to great and small.
21 And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did
according to the word of Memucan:
22 For he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province
according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language,
that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be
published according to the language of every people.
Pr 5:18 Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of
your youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy
you at all times; and be you ravished always with her love.
20 And why will you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace
the bosom of a stranger?
12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that makes ashamed
is as rottenness in his bones.
14:1 Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with
her hands.
21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling
woman in a wide house.
19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an
angry woman.
25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a
brawling woman and in a wide house.
27:15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are
alike.
31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband does safely trust in her, so that he shall have
no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool, and flax, and works willingly with her hands.
14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises also while it is yet night, and gives meat to her household,
and a portion to her maidens.
16 She considers a field, and buys it: with the fruit of her hands she
plants a vineyard.
17 She girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good: her candle goes not out by
night.
19 She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches forth her hands
to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household
are clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the
land.
24 She makes fine linen, and sells it; and delivers girdles to the merchant.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to
come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household, and eats not the bread of
idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he
praises her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but you excel them all.
30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that fears the LORD,
she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in
the gates.
Ec 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the
life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of
your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which
you take under the sun.
